Make sure to upload the zip that only contains the theme. Some people try to upload the zip they get from ThemeForest. Very often, that file contains other folders and files (like the psd, documentation, etc) and is not structured correctly for wordpress. Inside those files there’s probably another zip file that is the one you have to upload to your wordpress installation. At least that’s how It is with my themes and a lot of authors do the same.

Hope that helps.

Oscar.

My first theme didn’t even make it to the marketplace. I forgot about it and began from scratch, second one got accepted in the first try.

Ever since, I’ve had some themes rejected as many as 4 times, others accepted the first time and one soft-rejection.

I’m actually not sure if this behaviour is recent or not, but I don’t remember it happening before. While trying to give some support via the comments section of my themes, I found the HTML tags are being automatically closed when you write code (even between code and pre tags).

Pastie is great for big chunks of code, but most of the time, I just need to tell people to modify a line or two, so I just paste the code between code or pre tags. Having the HTML tags close automatically is really bothersome when trying to explain something to someone who doesn’t know HTML or PHP .

I understand why you need to close all the open tags in the comments, but I don’t see why you’d have to extend this to code and pre tags.

Hi, I just got this theme rejected for the third time and wanted some additional feedback because what I got in the e-mail is kinda vague and I really don’t get the reasons for the rejection:

“1) I see some changes, but it is not good enough for now.

2) The menu, header and overall design still required improvements.”

Here’s the link:

Cheers.

A lot of WordPress themes at ThemeForest contain the features you need. For what you want, you should probably start looking in the Blog/Magazine category

I’d recommend that you look for themes with Wordpress 3.0 support since adding your own background will be easier than in older themes.

Hope that helps. Good luck, and don’t worry about asking more questions, that’s why we are here.

I can get it to work on the first slide but after that it seems to not get added.

Just add Cufon.refresh() before the second slide shows.

Would you rather they comment or fix the bug?

I vote fix.

Sucks to be the one launching a new theme and have it show up right after a +300 sales and 5 stars theme :(

It must be under GPL . Because WordPress is under GPL and plugins are using WordPress functions, classes etc.

http://wordpress.org/development/2009/07/themes-are-gpl-too/

So there shouldn’t be any problem as long as you give the credits.

They ask people to release them under GPL v2+ but that doesn´t mean all the authors do that. From their plugin page:

It is customary to follow the standard header with information about licensing for the Plugin. Most Plugins use the GPL license used by WordPress or a license compatible with the GPL . To indicate a GPL license, include the following lines in your Plugin:

Depends on extent of the license, not all plugins are licensed under GPL (some are under Creative Commons, MIT , etc) and even if they are, that doesn´t automatically mean you can use it for commercial purposes.

Your best option is to just ask for permission from the author to include it, most authors are ok with letting you do it if you have the courtesy of asking.
