I got a degree in Film and Digital Media Production, I believe it does help in the long run as I learned a lot and also met lots of experienced people and learned how to be part of larger projects which I think is fairly important.

However, on the other side of the coin, the amount of tutor-ledge available for free online in conjunction with online courses means you can learn a great deal that way as well. I didn’t become involved in motion design until after I had left University where I had mainly studied Art Direction and Editing but now I would class myself as a full-time designer rather than an editor or such, you can never know how things will turn out. The most important thing is that you enjoy what you are doing.

Building a good portfolio is probably a great start like you said, I’m sure it would be useful whichever discipline you decide to go into.

I noticed you commented on the file itself, and he replied with a link to the piece he has taken ‘inspiration’ from rather than the GSG tutorial, perhaps he is unaware that derivative work is not accepted any more and maybe that needs to be made clearer to new authors who are maybe submitting for the first time.

I was actually fairly surprised that made it through, although some people are not familiar with GSG ’s site perhaps. Speaking of which I remember a few months ago when Video Copilot released a new tutorial for a cool title effect, then later that evening I turned on a very popular live talent show here in the UK and they had used the Video Copilot tutorial for all of the titles no more than 12 hours later, the cheek!

Yes I just going to go ahead and purchase the full res versions of some photos I like then I think, I just wasn’t 100% sure if purchased photodune photos could be used in previews, I assume its a given that they can’t be included in the project zip?

I will soon be submitting a slideshow style project that uses photos and videos rather as opposed to the usual logo stings I submit. I am at the stage where I need to swap out the current place-holder images I am using which I know for sure are not allowed to be included in the project file. My question is am I allowed to use watermarked photo-dune photos as previews or are all preview images restricted to the ones from the author asset library.

Cheers!

This is actually a cool little project, fairly surprising that it would be rejected for that reason as its quite unique in comparison with other extrudes.

It is too simple, pre-made flare overlayed on the same repeated motion and text. There is hundreds of projects just like this already for sale on the hive and more get submitted everyday.

Off the top of my head I would say you would need to mess with the xpresso used in the shape city 1.2 update Nick released. If I were you I would just drop him a quick email at his support page, he is always very vocal about how he is happy to help with any questions regarding his products.

I’m sure he would help you out!

Okay, just checked the animation thing. Have to say that is e”F”in incredibullshit!!!

I am amazed.

ANYWAY :( Kramer :( did :( not :( show :( us :( any :( text :( extruding :(

I think he isn’t showing off the extruding because frankly text extruding is pretty tame when compared to the other things this plugin seems capable of. You can probably expect the text extruding to be superior to the features provided by CS6 or the extrude script for CS5 and below anyway.

In regards to the animation engine, pretty blown away!

Plug-in actually looks like a game changer, to the extent I may move away from using Cinema for 3D type in favour of element.

It is released on my birthday too so I can treat myself!
