Menu – too close together, consider more spacing/less items.

Featur buttons (get started/take the tour) look to be too rounded if thats a word lol

Testimonials looks over-done to me – theres no real need for the block headings BUT i think if you were to space them out it might look alright.

The Our Team is awesome looks out of place – looks like it should be above the rest but hat wouldnt work either. Not sure if this part is finished or not but it didn’t look it to me.

Footer is okay but could do with an additional column it looks a bit too spaced out

@jeffeatworld – thanks for all the constructive criticism. These are really helpful, specific comments, and I’m going to play around with all of them.

I agree with jeffeatworld’s advices.

@johnnychaos – thanks for your reply. That tells me Jeff’s feedback is probably spot on.

Anybody else have any feedback or suggestions? I’d really appreciate it :)

So, I would like to ask you for some feedback no my template because I thinks I can do it better just like I did with my Landing Page.

Overall I think the template looks very nice. :) Maybe just some minor improvements to be accepted?

I have a couple of ideas:
  • This template is very similar to your Landing Page. Maybe try some different colors/textures. I believe reviewers want to see variety when new items are added.
  • Does the template include multiple color skins or multiple background textures? If not, I suggest you add some. Buyers like options.
  • Need a new name for your template. There is already a TF item called “Innova”.
  • Testimonials slider looks good. Nice animation/transitions. But need more whitespace under the headline text “Testimonials”. Too crowded and makes it hard to read the testimonials.
  • “Buy Now at Themeforest for only $15” text should be bigger, bolder, more contrast. This should be a main point of visual emphasis.
  • Need more contrast on “Buy Now” and “See the Demo” buttons. These are blending into the background too much. *I like using the same texture for button and bg, but maybe a different (complimentary) color for these buttons :)
  • Maybe add mouseover/hover effect (maybe change colors) on 4x “Learn More” buttons.
  • Blog pages & pages with lots of text: white embossed text with shadow on dark background is hard to read. Maybe consider a container for the text with light/white background + black/gray text color.
  • Text links in the siderbar area (Blog Categories, Meta) need mouseover/hover effect
  • Too much whitespace on left/right sides. Overall container looks like 1100+ px wide. But your main design is only 775px wide. Maybe make your design about 960px-980px wide. Then you can have larger text and still have plenty of padding/whitespace around text and other elements.

That’s disappointing to hear your item was rejected twice. Good luck the next time around :D

Hello everyone,

I am working on my first template for Themeforest. Planning on coding the design as a WP theme with a pretty standard set of features (sliders, portfolio image galleries, blog layouts, etc).

So far I have designed a home page. Other page designs will be based on this home page—plan to use same layout for header/nav bar and footer across all pages.

Here is what I have so far: http://img696.imageshack.us/i/rapidehome040411.jpg/

Any criticism/feedback/advice would be great. Thanks in advance! :)

“I know in at least one case, an author had his Landing Page approved (previously rejected) after he made some changes based on comments made by myself and others.” Thanks for the help

You’re very welcome. Actually, that makes 2 LPs that got approved after they made changes based on feedback by me and other users. I’m tickled pink :superbashfulcute:

Thanks to everybody for the warm welcome. I really appreciate it! :)

Thanks for everyone’s help! My theme just got accepted! I learned something from all of this, if you see any part of your theme that’s not that interesting, or a bit looks off for any small reason, change it!!

Congratulations! Already 4 sales too- great! :)

Your item looks very nice.

If you don’t mind, can you post screenshots of the rejected version & accepted version in this thread: http://themeforest.net/forums/thread/theme-approvals-before-after/37375

Best of luck with your sales!

Hi Johnny-

I agree, your theme has great aesthetics. Very nice start :)

I was told via support that while they think it looks terrific (and are generally very positive), it’s too minimal for Themeforest, with a suggestion made to submit it as a landing page – surely there’s too much there for a landing page?

In my opinion, the design is closest to other Landing Pages on TF. Where is the navigation menu? Is the round circle w/ document icon intended to be a logo?

I would focus on the very top of the page to make it more usable. Website visitors/browsers (and theme buyers) expect to see links at the top they can navigate between pages. And most websites have (NEED) some logo text in addition to graphics.

My suggestions:
  • Add text to the logo
  • Scale down the logo icon/ replace with a more appealing graphic
  • Move logo element to the left side of header
  • Add navigation links in the right side of header

I really wholeheartedly believe that if I add clutter simply for the sake of satisfying requirements it will damage this layout negatively.

Try to picture this from a buyers’ perspective. Maybe some buyers have a different, less sophisticated design style compared to you :) If you want to get sales on TF, your theme needs to be desirable to potential buyers. To buyers, it won’t be “adding clutter”—it might be “useful features that help market my business” instead.

Best of luck with your design! I think you have something strong to work with.

Right now blue “Read More” buttons are aligned with right side of columns. Maybe align with left side instead

EDIT : Currently buttons are on the LEFT side. I recommend aligning with RIGHT side instead.

Sorry for confusion :superbashfulcute:

Footer looks a LOT better without the grid lines :)

I think the shadows could be softer along the bottom of 3 home page images. Also, softer shadows on the horizontal divider bars (such as above/below “Because we care” ) and on the nav bar.

Also- 3 icons on home page below the fold (“What we favor” “What we enjoy” etc) headline text is too close to the icon. Need more left margin on the text.

A couple more ideas:
  • H2 headlines “Who we are” etc. could be bolder text
  • Still seems like main container needs more padding. Your text content seems very close to the edge (esp. on the left side)- and your strong background competes visually with the text. Makes it distracting to try to read. I would consider reducing / scaling down some elements (3 images, maybe more narrow columns) so you can add more whitespace between the content and background/ edge of white container.
  • Horizontal divider above footer (with ‘return to top’ arrow icon) seems out of place. Do buyers care about ‘return to top’ anymore??
  • Below 4-col footer area, replace Lorem Ipsum text with placeholder copyright text + text links for ‘privacy’ / ‘terms’ instead
  • “Read More” buttons could be vivid color to provide contrast & emphasis
  • IMO “Read More” buttons would have better visual hierarchy if they were aligned with right side of columns. Moving them to right side + more color contrast will draw attention & add better ‘call-to-action’

NOTE : From my understanding, the PSD category is difficult to get into unless you have a ‘very unique’ design. Have you considered coding the template in HTML /CSS and submitting to the Site Templates category?

Good luck when you re-submit! :)

Hi Julián,

Welcome to Themeforest. Your theme design is a good start :) Very aesthetic and good balance.

I have a few ideas to improve the design:
  • The logo text seems too simple. Maybe ‘jazz it up’ a little.
  • Upper right corner seems empty. Maybe add icons or text links (anchor navigation) in the right side of the header.
  • New color for BuyItNow button. Gray blends in. Need to stand out more from the background.
  • This text: “CHECK IT AT THE SITE ” seems too thin / too light. Maybe a different font or bold text. Same thing for text headlines in footer (“SITEMAP” “LATEST ARTICLES ” etc).
  • Paragraph text next to slider (under “We make more than websites”)—line-height is too big. Need less line height to create less spacing between lines of text.
  • Right now blue “Read More” buttons are aligned with right side of columns. Maybe align with left side instead to create better visual hierarchy & draw attention to these buttons.
  • Your sample image in the slider (anime girl) is very striking- that is good. But also very strange- that could be bad. The girl looks kind of creepy. Maybe consider new stock artwork for the slider.
  • Overall the template seems kind of plain / maybe too simple. Maybe consider bolder color scheme with vivid contrast. Maybe you want to add some more graphics / icons also.

Good luck with your theme!

Welcome Matt! You’ve got the right attitude for this community and I wish you lots of luck on your first design! Feel free to post a preview of it in the item discussion area for feedback. There’s a lot of awesome folks here who would be happy to help you out. btw… I’m originally from Chicago so watch yourself come football season when the Bears and Rams face off. ;)

Hi Jami-

Thanks for your warm welcome & encouraging statements. Yep- I’m already familiar with the Item Discussion area. (Don’t worry, I’ll post my threads in the right spot)

btw… the Bears success is the product of Rams’ former coaching staff :D
