It seems as if you have images that you are using as placeholders in the main file that are a waste of space because they are only temporary. Delete those images from your main file and the inside your code replace the images as follows:

<img src="http://placehold.it/350x150" />

Replace the 350 with your width and 150 with your height.

It will come out as follows for whatever size you’ve chosen.

does this refer to homepage only

It would be a good idea to do for all temporary assets for both your clients and your reviewal.

Why don’t we take the current Themeforest menu bar and change it to this?

http://i.imgur.com/peUKt.png

There is enough space that the “More” section is redundant and it hides the Tumblr themes/Blogger themes.

Could you expand what you mean?

You want to hide the customize pane on the theme customization page but retain the theme customization preview?

Tried posting this in the item discussion forum but it didn’t get any responses. Maybe I’ll have better luck over here.

My Tumblr theme, Uniform, was rejected from Themeforest. I received a generic response followed by a suggestion to remove excess whitespace.

The theme includes two layouts, traditional and grid.

Here is a link to the uniform demo, http://uniformtheme.tumblr.com and also a link to the traditional layout http://philse.com

Any feedback is much appreciated. Thanks.

Thank you very much for the critique!

Think about the top part, where the logo feels a bit rushed. The same for the top navigation social links, maybe some icons instead of the text would make the design stand out a bit more.

When you say the header looks rushed, do you mean that there isn’t enough vertical spacing above it or it needs more thought put into it? Great idea with the icons, I’ll add icons for social networks and the basic Tumblr links (RSS, Archive, Ask) and then put a “Other Links” section in the footer for the user’s links that don’t have icons.

Also, I would like to suggest you surf around and look for some tutorials/articles about typography hierarchy, and work with typography in general.

Reading up on some articles now.

Hi, I’m looking to submit this Tumblr theme soon and would love some critique.

Here is a link to the test site.

The theme supports all post types:
  • Audio
  • Video
  • Photo
  • Photoset
  • Ask/Answer
  • Quote
  • Link
  • Text
  • Chat
  • Also, there is a Small or Large option below the Older and Newer pagination links, which will toggle the site between a one column post for small and a two column post size for large. The user’s preference is saved with a cookie so their choice will remain next time they visit the site. I’m debating whether this is useful or completely unnecessary. What do you guys think?

    Thanks.

It’s easy for me to say things like ‘It has severe issues in typography, spacing, color, padding, balance, etc.’.

Thing is, it’s up to you to work very hard in those areas, to improve your skills.

A reviewer will give a friendly-business response, so welcome to the forums:

    1. I wouldn’t be tempted to use the theme even if it were free.
    2. I don’t think it would be accepted as a free theme on Tumblr.

I know you probably want to choke me to death right now, but I’m only being honest. No disrespect.

Work hard, improve yourself, get rejected again, start over. You’ll get approved after that for sure ;)

Thanks for the input, looks like its back to the drawing board.

Hi, I recently created a Tumblr theme with hopes of submitting it to themeforest. It is called “Dense” and you can preview it at http://philse.tumblr.com and at http://densetheme.tumblr.com. After I submitted it, it was rejected and I received the following email:

Honestly, this template has more issues that I can possibly point out. The style looks very basic and flat and has no design direction. With further improvements I’ll may be able to provide more specific feedback. Sorry about that.

Hopefully I’ve been able to answer your questions, however, if I haven’t then please feel free to let me know.

    Kind regards,

[Reviewer Removed] ThemeForest & GraphicRiver Reviewer

I asked another forum and they recommended I soften the drop shadow around the boxes, which I did and you can compare the difference between http://philse.tumblr.com and http://densetheme.tumblr.com. Any input on my theme would be greatly appreciated. Maybe I should release the theme as a free theme on Tumblr’s theme garden?

    Thanks.

Edit: Also forgot to add, this theme supports two post sizes. Users can tag their posts with “large” to increase the post width to two columns long.
