AS2 is successful language than any other versions. The reason is Flash 8 came up with designer compelling features which required AS2 to control dynamically. So AS1 means nothing, even for designers

You may need to add a dummy instance of flash in your html before loading your main swf.

When the AS2 file loaded, call a javascript function from within and send total frames as argument (not sure if as3 allows you to call js from child AS2 file)

Again from within the js function call a function that resides in your AS3 movie (use external interface) and send the value.

Edit: Sorry, I missed to read that you don’t have source of AS2 file

From a broad sense, the system can be classified as 3 parts

One of which deals with what we do at present to create the future which I think important to consider than other ones as atleast we have control over what we do NOW .
