But this never taken care in the past when it reflected on item ratings and comments. It is easy to have policies/guidelines in written form. But do you really think authors will afraid about this change if the written policies were functional in the past? (speaking only about support and its connection with ratings especially about new items)

Agreed. And that’s why this project is about more than just written policy. As mentioned in the blog post:

We’ve got lots of work to do under the hood as we adjust the T&Cs, item management processes, author settings, item pages, ratings, download pages, purchase confirmation API and much more.
:D

Not sure if you understand but see this way:

The mandatory support period ends. The buyer asks questions. Author points the time expired. Receive 1 star. What is the difference between current system and new system?

The worst case is for new items (within 6 month period), how you staffs aware some buyer asks customisation requests towards author, when denied and leaves 1 star? There is no solution at all – but we are going to increase buyer expectations (more than ever) by announcing mandatory support.

Are some buyers still going to ask for the “kitchen sink” when they buy a theme? Some may, no different than they do now. But we’re going to be very clear with what is and is not considered support. So in summary, no you will not be required to teach a buyer how to code :)

Edit: One solid example is, a buyer can leave 1 star rating with the reasoning of “Customer Support”. But in the past we called support is not mandatory. How both were allowed?

@Scott Wills, there is an easy way to complete this challenge:

Take a steam bath and announce that this is an improved version of meeting an Ice Bucket Challenge.

I really wonder how much water is simply wasted like this while many are dying for just one drop of it.

^ I don’t care about water. The required care level varies place to place depending on availability of water and arrangements. Earth’s gravity will take care most cases – why worry too much?

But it is worrisome to ignore the search system improvements here which causes inefficient exposure / purchase / product connectivity issues of such a huge library of items / resource being wasted for a long time.

Sorry for the off topic.

@LCweb, This particular thing is similar to removal of upload progress bar and guessing it as improvement.

When it comes to item support, nothing improves except authors are now forced to commit for 6 month support. Envato doesn’t going to involve with the buyers who rates 1 star after 6 months for whatever reason – similar to what happens right now.

+1 with FinalDestiny’s insights on staff responses and Envato’s overall actions. There are limits for experiments.

I don’t mind the 30/70 commission if there is a real / better support platform for authors :)

I would say, Envato should make support platform first – before making it 6 month mandatory. Then wait for that 6 months. Make sure the community (sigh! both buyer & authors) are fine with that system and then add paid support.

Because, right now serious authors are having own support channel and tired of making the buyers to use that. The comments section is flooding with “No support available here and please ask the same question on my support forum”. Both buyers and authors are struggling with this.

Either remove the comments section or improve it before making it mandatory.

I don’t think there is an author that’s selling a product and not offering support – so 6 month will not change anything for most of us. Even better – we can earn some extra money for the same support that we’re offering now.

While this appears like an easy adoption, a buyer paying just 1$ for support can ruin the author’s time. Envato knows psychology of buyers / trend and aware this will open a flood of customisation expectations in the name of unpaid / paid support. (We already know that Envato is silent about abused rating system/ Blackmails for Free customisations. A powerful silence)

That’s why they want 30% even for the support burden taken by authors without guaranteeing any upgrades on support channel / comments section.

@george-olaru, Btw, are you an author?

Is this thread’s AGENDA is to give a false impression of authors are ALWAYS getting 100% commission?

Please un-sticky it or just change the title. Grrrr…

Anyway, it was a happy birthday.
