Hi, this is Themeforest Forum – a place for general discussions about theme – not a place for support.

Contact author(s) of the theme to get assistance.

Thanks

Lots of funs, huh? :P Everyone here is fighting for better sales. Some is creating unique things, some is following others, some is finding blue ocean, ... The winner is the one sitting on the popular items. The winner rules :)

To me – this is not a game, it’s not about winning and losing. What I’m trying to say is – we’ll all lose and it will happen rather soon – when this marketplace gets too saturated with “bloatthemes” and too complicated, hard to set up and maintain themes … When buyers and authors start massively to migrate from TF …

And btw, I’m not “losing”, anyway – I make a decent living from this … could be better, though ;) )

I was going to give a super long reply explaining why’s and why not’s but then I realized it would fit better if I just said: Demand & Supply.
I really hate that “Demand and Supply” argument.

It always crosses my mind the fact that one particular group of people is often using that argument – drug dealers. Yes – this is over the top argument but I use it to emphasize absurdity of that argument because we are all aware that it’s a relationship where both “sides” affect each other, both ways – not only “supply must follow demand” ... We all know how drug dealers are creating demand …

That being said, the “demand and supply” might maybe work in open free market (there’s no such thing – everything is manipulated and noone’s free), but this is a marketplace where a company owning that marketplace (Envato) sets the rules. They did great job with this marketplace in a last couple of years, and we (authors and buyers) really had a lot of benefit from it …

This is not a matter of “demand and supply”, it’s a matter of controlling a company’s marketplace. Maybe Envato is gaining a lot with current policy, but I believe this won’t last long (unfortunately), if they don’t change …

I agree, bloat of mega-themes should be stopped, or at least controlled – perhaps to rise the mega multipurpose themes prices (perhaps even higher then $100) and/or limit premium plugins bundled (personally, I would forbid that completely) ...

Yeah I agree, you should never edit 3rd party source.

Barem da se u ne?emu sla┼żemo … :P (sorry for localized lang …) I agree – don’t touch 3rd party source … Override and overwrite …

I tried Bootstrap (we released one theme based on bootstrap here), but it turned out that I have to override so many classes.

Then I used Unsemantic grid, like – I’ll just use 3rd party scaffolding and make my own css for everthing else. So I had to create all those elements (forms, buttons … all) by myself, and lost a lot of time to get not so much better result then with Bootstrap.

Now I’m on Foundation (for our upcoming theme) and it seems it has a good balance for scaffolding / elements / snippets with customization (overriding). Plus – it’s mobile first, scss, more semantic …

But, again – my advice would be – don’t touch the source -that’s the beauty of css – you can easily override it.

@goofydadog – I know about supply and demand – that was not my point …

If you are “only” a buyer (I’m saying “only” in terms if you are not author as well), you have a different perspective … Off course, at the moment it suits you to have huge themes … Have 10 plugins and theme for the value of just theme …well, who wouldn’t want that !?
Imagine to get 10 cars for the price of one . Of course,if you can get that, everyone can get that too , so – how would it affect the cars market … ? Good … ? I believe not. If everyone gets 10 cars in price of one, you wouldn’t be able to sell that extra cars you get, and you won’t be able to maintain them all (repairs, gas, insurance …) ... Which would lead to making a lot of junk – and, the car industry will collapse, too, not being able to sell new cars …etc.

I’m talking about flooding of marketplace ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flooding_the_market ) and I believe it’s bad for this marketplace in long run (not so long – matter of months, maybe, because this business is very fast) – I believe it will influence badly on sales and not benefit to anyone – authors and/or buyers …

Yep, Yet Another Bundled Plugins thread … :)

to me i IS an issue – I believe that, in long terms, this cluttering of plugins in theme download package will create oversaturation in marketplace with monster multipurpose themes which will lead to drastic fall of sales, not only for those “smaller” themes, but to us all.

Lots of issues with support, updates, compatibilities, too complex to install, setup and maintain … to me it all looks just insane…

The more I think about it, the more I’m convinced that bundling premium plugins with themes should be banned, and make themes “only” compatible with premium plugins and advertise as such … That ”$500 worth of plugins packages” with 15 plugins inside must stop … It’s just insane to me … Not to mention if you add theme alone features galore, with 500 options, 20 skins, blah blah …

Your thoughts ?

We used APB for out last theme and found few flaws in int.

Now we are using SiteOrigin Plugin for our latest upcoming theme: http://tiny.cc/xl2y7w

It looks great as its light weight and simple to use.

Hi, could you please share some of it’s flaws (I would like to confirm my doubts … )

Thanks

For creating layouts, first you need to create page template and next add them into page.

Instead of 2 steps its better to use one step directly and there is no regular update for this.

Yeah, well that may be a flaw, but it can be advantage to – if you use templates as sections reusable on multiple pages. If you only do 1 template per 1 page, yeah, that is 2 steps (on too much ;) )
