Buy now. New ones were just release and the reviews are coming in great. 21” should be fine particularly with a second monitor.

Looks like you are selling this on Mojo now…

I like the theme, it is minimal and lightweight. However, I think that you could do a better job selling the theme with the way you have it set up. For example, portfolio items just go to a page template… I know that you can put whatever you like in there but I sort of expect to see a bigger version of the portfolio item and some info about that. You should use the demo site to sell the features…

Good luck with it. It is a solid looking theme and should sell well, especially with a better demo.

Re: Thematic, etc…

Correct me if I am wrong but you can use any GPL code in your theme simply by including it. No need to recode. Thematic is full GPL , which means you can modify it as you like, though obviously you inherit the same license for your own code.

Sorry to say, but this design has quite a way to go to get accepted on TF. That is not to say that there is anything inherently “wrong” with it, it would work fine for a basic site or small business needing something straight-forward. However, the level of design on TF is getting so high, there just isn’t room for this type of theme.

My advice, if this is a working theme, consider submitting this to the WordPress theme directory. While you won’t be directly paid for this effort, you will gain the experience and hopefully some recognition. Then, research, research, research… there is a world of education to be gained by looking at some of the other themes on here or, maybe better, some of the web design galleries out there… cssrockstar.com, awwwards.com, etc…

Don’t be discouraged. If this were easy, we would all be rich by now. Good luck.

I think that Thematic is okay to use here. Ian Stewart, the creator, open says to use it for whatever you like… (though I can’t find where I read that but it is completely GPL ).

It is certainly not stealing. Anyone who gets into theming knows that, at the very least, the php is gpl (or they should know anyway). Using the split license is enough protection to keep someone from simply rebranding your theme and reselling it. While I am certain that there are some features that get passed around, even a market as large and somewhat anonymous as themeforest shows mostly original work. Relax about it, the GPL license is one of the best things about WordPress and is one of the main factors that made it as popular as it is.

This looks interesting for gallery management.

@Phoenix – dude, you rock. That is some slick functionality. Having to click the “insert into post” is a bit inelegant, but that would be my main sticking point. Check out the plugin (not mine) that I linked to earlier. It makes use of the attached media to the post. It’s problem is that you have to insert the “gallery” into the post… but from there it is a standard wp gallery with all of those pluses and minuses. I would like to get my hands on your functionality… (btw, I am generally impress with your work. good stuff.)

As for the custom content (post) type issue. A custom type is good in that it makes it real obvious to the user what they are working on. However, that does give up some flexibility and makes a mess if they ever want to change themes due to lack of standardization, which as a theme developer you need to plan for (imo). Making the custom content type as a plugin would solve some of that problem but it seems that theme developers on here don’t like plugins. Likely because they are so transportable and mostly gpl… but that would be the point wouldn’t it?

Maybe envato should tackle a portfolio plugin in the same way they did the option tree, which I think is excellent (at least so far). It is definitely common functionality and could benefit from standardization. For that matter, a slider manager could use the same approach as well though the option tree has the rudiments of a slide manager built in.

I think that we should look at themes as a suite of tools rather than just a theme with everything built in. Making some of this common functionality; options, slider, portfolio, etc; as plugins would make this stuff more modular and standardized. Certainly some folks are going to want to innovate in these areas but really, these could be tackled in a standard way.

...found this recently. It might be some help with the built in gallery.

Phoenix, your gallery manager looks sweet. All I could find about it was as a feature to one of your themes… can you post some more screen shots?

I agree that galleries are a real problem in wordpress and there is no real elegant way to solve it yet. I hope the the wp core addresses this soon.
