The Pound (£) really sucks
Actually it’s great for us brits at the moment…
Eg. A year ago $1000 would be a little over £500 but with the weak pound at the moment $1000 is currently just over £700.
Most of my clients pay in USD so it’s like having a 20% pay rise. I make more money than a year ago and my clients pay the same price so everyone is happy
I think it’s another element of modern web design.
I agree with you!
Yes it does… when used correctly but it can sometimes be used (in my opinion) unnecessarily which is what i mean by “overused”.
I also don’t think restricting submitted js enabled templates is a good idea.
I don’t think it should be retricted either… I’ve seen ‘some’ very cool stuff getting submitted!
Anyway, I don’t think their is a clear right or wrong. It’s down to personal taste
I started a similar discussion a while ago – here
I’m pretty much in the same situation as segen, where most of my clients come to me.
I would personally avoid sites where you have to bid for work as your be lucky to scratch a living from them! If you do want to look for work try a job board such as the freelanceswitch board as you should find that the pay and work is of a higher/better quality than bidding sites.
Also, I would focus on getting the very best of your work out there for everyone to see. An online portfolio (if you haven’t already?) with maybe a blog to help promote yourself is a good place to start and then with abit of patience… one day you will be turning work away.
Don’t give up!
I was reading through the replies and was quite shocked to see how few people were from the UK.
Fair point, I didn’t think of seo not being needed.
I’m by no means saying using it is wrong.
A friendly debate is always good to hear other perspectives
Thanks for sharing your opinions.
@JeffreyWay – I hope you dont mind me using your theme as an example… but what are the benefits of the jQuery you used on your ‘Beautiful Red Business Theme’ where you have animated content? I can see how that is beneficial for say a picture gallery but not for the whole site. Ofcourse this is just my opinion.
I admit it looks impressive but why is it better to have all the content on one page? I’m no SEO expert but i always thought it was better to have seperate pages so you could have unique page titles, etc. Sorry for picking at your work
Also, I can eccept it will be used more in future web design but my concern is that it will be used unnecessarily.
I’ve started to see a trend of ‘jQuery’ being used… a lot! I see some templates using jQuery that are selling really well… which is great! But do you think that is the reason for this trend apearing?
Don’t get me wrong.. I love jQuery as much as the next person but I have seen some overkill!
I believe it’s ok if it enhances functionality, usability, etc, and alitte showing off is ok ofcourse. But I don’t include it just for the sake of it. Do you??
Whats your opinions? I would be interested to know your thoughts and maybe your justifications for using it.
Ps. i’m not trying to stir anything up, so don’t take this the wrong way if your theme uses jQuery. I’m just trying to contribute a discussion to the forums.
