Thanks for pointing this out, I’ve logged a ticket for someone to investigate. In the future when you think you’ve come across a bug, please contact support as it’s easy for us to miss these forum messages.

Cheers.

check first if in the discussion section of your item you have selected the option to see only comments from people who bought the item.

The filter option is saved to your profile when changed, so when you come back to view comments it uses the same filter as before.

dSKY, you had the filter set to ‘Purchasers & Authors’, I’ve set it back to ‘All Discussion’ for you.

Thanks for all the great suggestions everyone, I’ve noted down the ones I think I can chew off in the time I have. I’ll detail which ones I’ve implemented in this thread once I’m done, though some will be very obvious ;)

+1 for some nicer forum search results.

I would love some tweaks on the pre code block thingey..

<?php echo 'some php code #1'; ?>

renders the opening php tag funny on everything except the last ‘pre’ block. buggy

<?php echo 'some php code #2'; ?>

Yeah I noticed this yesterday, I’m in the process of rewriting the markup transform so this will be fixed soon and also make it easy to add other improvements in the future.

Oh and force avatars to be 80×80 px, right now you just shrink them, but the files are still bigger, it would cost you a little less in terms of bandwith. (kudos to motionreactor).

Yep we know about this one, it’s being fixed in a larger project currently in development.

Hello forum peeps!

I’ve got a small amount of time allocated (2-3 days) to give these forums a bit of love :nerdy: :inlove:, so I’m putting to you all to let me know what you’d most like to see improved.

Please keep in mind that whilst I’d love to rewrite the forums to be the most amazing, feature-rich in the world.. I do have a time a constraint so try and keep the suggesting small but valuable.

What I had in mind already:

1 – The layout/navigation is very confusing to me, the tabs along the top show no hierarchy. 2 – quotes don’t tell me who they quote 3 – New threads and threads with new replies since my last visit should appear at the top of the page.

Essentially what I want to get out of this is to make the forums more useable, so I’m going to favour ideas that encourage newcomers to stick around and in general anything that makes the forum experience a little less scary :)

Bring on the suggestions!!

The problem isn’t with Flash. The problem is that HTTP wasn’t designed for transferring files, this becomes especially apparent when transferring large ones. Some people may have more success using the retro uploader simply because browsers have gotten better at handling file uploads. Browsers such as IE6 are especially bad and hence why the Flash approach was used to provide a better experience, although now it looks like we’ve come full circle and some browsers manage this better. The underlying problem still exists for the Flash uploader and the retro one; they’re both using HTTP .

The biggest problem is that HTTP is a state-less protocol, if your connection is dropped you have to re-start the connection. The size of your file, and the speed of your network connection and the route your connection has to take to reach our servers all play a factor in the likelihood of your upload being successful. Simply put, the larger your file and the slower your connection the longer your upload will take and the more likely you are to experience a connection drop-out.

The only real solution here is to use a protocol that isn’t state-less and is optimized for file transfers, i.e FTP . Which as I said before we’re already planning :)

The retro uploader doesn’t use flash, so while the upload still happens over HTTP , your browser is responsible for uploading the file. It doesn’t look like it, but the upload button is in fact a standard <input type="file" />.

We’re still planning an FTP (probably) based uploader too.
