A new client has asked us to rebuild their site and we’ve scheduled that for mid-November. In the meantime, they’ve asked us to maintain and support their existing site which is a piece of crap custom CMS from some other company.

We’re happy to do so but red flags are being raised in number as we don’t have the time / inclination to pore through the source files and clean them all up while we’re also building the new site.

Does anyone have (or can point us to) a boilerplate contract clause which frees us of any liability for downtime of the existing site due to poor build / coding? Does such a thing exist?

Many thanks for any suggestions.

I’d take a look at that top menu – it’s not particularly friendly for anyone with poor eyesight with the grey on grey.

I quite like it! Certainly more interesting than the 100s of blurred photo background lookalikes around at the moment.

Ignore the ‘too simple’ jibe above – simplicity is key, especially with a single function page like this.

Putting on my defensive headgear

I agree the reviews should stay. If I buy a wp plugin which is buggy, doesn’t work as advertised and needs a masters degree to configure, I’ll leave a bad review and ask envato for a refund.

After the item has been refunded, does that suddenly make the review and my experience of the product any less valid? Do we pretend that a poor experience never happened?
Well that’s a non sense why you may ask? If the ratings stays he should still then have an option to change it to a higher rating further on, specially in case stated in this thread.

lol no it’s not. Name me one other marketplace on the web where if a product is upgraded or made better then the marketplace removes all negative reviews pertaining to previous versions.

Re. getting rid of ratings altogether?...I agree – raise the reviewing bar much higher and scrap the rating system. But the what would we have to talk about on the forums all day :)

2 kops. It makes sense if the product is really buggy. I had the customers who purchased the HTML templates and tried to use the in WordPress, then rated 1 star and got a refund. Do you find it fair?

No of course that’s not fair and envato should be removing those reviews immediately. Regarding refunds for poor products, though, the review should stay.

Cheers for the responses – Just trying to figure out how the loading time can be fast(ish) when if, as you say, several frames of large jpgs are getting loaded in. I’ll get there :)
