The search is too bold, try to fade it out a bit. Right now it’s commanding too much attention. I agree with the navigation comment, while I like the look, it doesn’t fit with the other elements (compared to the search and the tabs below). The sub menu just doesn’t work either. The tabs are nice, but as with the search, a bit too bold. they steal the focus, also the green on the gray doesn’t show up that well on some screens. This might be solved by using a lighter gray or a darker green.

On the contact form the active element would fit better with a green outline instead of the default one, also for the email fields input type, try using (if possible) email instead of text. on a touch screen device it should display an email specific keyboard, and it also adds validation of the email address. (you can read more about it in the html5 spec.)

The sitemap could do with some work, it looks like it was added without getting any styling.

The blog view also needs some work, All the post info is sort of crammed under the image, a better presentation of this would go a long way on improving this template. I like the read more, but don’t like the glowing look for the text in the hover state(it fits with the hover of other elements, but i find the glow a bit too much, maybe scale it back a little).

Going back to the header, this is one of the most important parts of a site. This is the first thing someone looks at, and right now it’s got a huge amount of empty space.

Also, when I highlight text, it’s pink. It doesn’t really fit in with the theme.

I like the textures and colors as well as the layout, but I think you overdid it with the ribbon effect

The issue that jumps out at me is the the testemonials. I don’t see the ”, and there isn’t enough spacing between them.

All in all your site made 79 requests and downloaded 5.56MB with an average speed connection your site will take almost 30 seconds to load. On slower connections people will be waiting for 3 to 10 minutes! No one would wait that long. One big culprit was your background weighing in at 1.69MB. Way to big! Worst part of that was that it didn’t even go all the way down, it stopped about 100px before the end of the page (the layout didn’t work properly, which is a different issue but this would be the case with any page that has a lot of content). now if you where to reduce quality of the jpeg down to 80, it would be about 900k which is much better and you can go as low as 30 with this image which should bring it under 200k, Ideally, what I would recommend is to try to make it into a smaller repeatable pattern, and then use a PNG to handle the lighting (css3 mulitple backgrounds and stretch). the pattern will show up an all browsers, and modern browsers will get the added lighting effect.

Typography – a HUGE issue. Latest tweets and Latest News take up two lines, should only take up one. Also they are less important than main content. Your 3 title headers are huge and fight for attention, the name of the dish is indistinguishable from the description of the dish, and all you really notice there is read more. on the blogs page, Latest Blog Posts is the same size is the blog title, only it’s bold, it’s indistinguishable at first glance. Also the actual article text is too small. I wouldn’t want to read anything that small. I would just browse away a bit bigger and a larger line-height would help. Your image caption is way too big. Also try playing around a bit more with different font combinations (don’t use too many at one time). A serif for your titles for example.

The layout is broken when I loaded it. Applying clear:left; to .alpha fixed that for me. Also Alpha and Omega are normally used inside another element defined by the grid. To fix that, your wrapper should have a class of grid_24.

Functionality I find it’s ok, (would like an option to display full menu without images, as most visitors want to see at one glance what’s on the menu and not have to scroll through it)

On to the actual design, I don’t think that it would appeal to many restaurants. In fact there are very few restaurants where this style would fit. Try to think about who this template is for, and try to come up with different versions of this theme that would appeal to them, or at least more of them. A family restaurant wouldn’t go for this, nor would a high class French or Italian restaurant. A trendy sushi bar perhaps. Broadening the appeal of the template will help you increase sales.

With a name like horizon, I was expecting a very colorful visually stunning experience. Instead I got the horizon in grayscale.

Add some color, especially to your buttons!

Overall, too busy. Every section is fighting for attention and the eye doesn’t know where to go first. look more into typography, and hierarchy.

I’m not sure about the banner, mostly the side parts. The perspective is off.

It’s way too busy. Too much is fighting for attention.

The header area, the buttons would look better aligned to the text(align left). I also don’t think the black border around the slider fits that well. Try a darker blue(i’m looking at sky, so the same would apply to the other colors). The fonts you use are a bit boring. I bit more work needs to be done on them (choosing the right one). one thing you could try is switching the smaller one to a serif.

Hierarchy of Typography is an issue all through the page. as an example,if you look at “More Features” and “Beautiful striking color scheme” they are too close in size. that and the the nice icon beside the nice color… means that you see that before the the “More Features”. Reducing the size of “beautiful striking color scheme” (and elements of that nature) would help improve the look.

The read more buttons don’t stand out enough and In my opinion should be aligned to the right( the eye will go there once it’s done reading the blurb)

The tabs and the testemonial background are too loud, and give too much contrast. switching them to being white with a softer border would help alot in reducing the loudness of it.

The background has been mentioned, but what bothers me is more the transition into the footer. there isn’t any contrast, and the colors are too similar and it doesn’t blend well.

The send message looks completely out of place. The blue looks a little off, and the style doesn’t really fit with what you have. I would copy the style you are using for the top right logo. Also you have a big hole in the design above the message. Maybe try putting the message to the right of name and email.

There are elements I like, however they don’t all work together. You are mixing different styles. Pick one style and stick with it.

The colors also need some tweaking, The black just doesn’t fit with the other colors you have, if you replace the bright red and black with a color ranging from a dark red to a dark purple (think eggplant) I think it would fit a little bit better. If you go with that color scheme though some of your visual elements such as your menu and login menu wouldn’t fit i, however an the effect you use for your twitter and face book icons (properly aligned) would.

If you keep the red and black, look at replacing the main color you’re using with white/light gray. With this color scheme your menu bar, login box, footer might look a little more in place.

Keep practicing and keep trying and remember, if at first you don’t succeed, sky diving wasn’t your sport.
