They rebooted the series ( calling it just Mortal Kombat ) and made it an ultra violent fun fest. When you buy the PS3 version you get to play as Kratos.

Incredible piece of cinema. The genius IMO is in the double reverse/forward cut, and the build up along with the music (similar to 27 days later) makes it powerful and emotional.
