Creating a uniform “try for 30 days” for WordPress plugins would not be hard. What would be hard is ensuring that EVERY single plugin author on Envato follows the necessary standards.
It’s really just not something that can be realistically done.
A tip for future purchases: check item ratings, as well as author ratings. If the author has a history of highly rated items, then you’re probably safe to assume that they offer good support.
That being said, no one should be afraid to buy from a new author just because they don’t have a history of good ratings, because they only just started.
Nobody has answered my question… how can I be sure that a plugin will work before I buy it? Surely you understand that… you can’t know if a plugin will have a conflict until you install it, right?
That’s exactly why every plugin goes through a review process. But there is no possible way that you could test a plugin for compatibility issues before purchasing, because that would require that you obtain a copy of the plugin (for free), install it on your server, try it out, and then . . . wait you already have the plugin! Why would you buy it?
So, because of that, we, as authors and as buyers, have to hope that there are not problems with compatibility. And in the case that there are, we have to hope that the developer is helpful in solving the problem. If the developer is unable to solve the problem, as has been the problem here, buyers can turn to the community, just as you have done here. The fact that there are now 4 pages of comments left on your post is a testament to just how amazing this community / marketplace are.
Each person that has responded here has done so without any benefit to them, except the satisfaction of helping someone out.

How did you add the link “open image”? It might be as simple as something like forgetting to include the link to the actual image. As noted above, the href and rel tags of the anchor link are empty.
Yep, I did connect with the developer… When I add the shortcode (Lightbox Evolution), a link is created… but, when you click on it nothing happens.
Right here you have found the source of the problem. jQuery incompatibility issues are extremely common, particularly if the developer (of either the theme or the plugin) failed to load or call jquery correctly.
A quick test you can always run is disabling jquery (or just removing the call to jQuery) in the plugin file and see if it works. If you are not comfortable doing that, then contact the plugin developer and ask him to do it.

There’s really no way to judge how much a custom plugin will cost without having the details of the needed plugin. If you post a detailed list of what the plugin needs, then you’ll get some offers.
