Okay, so I’m – like many others – was waiting for the refresh of the non-retina Macbook Pro line in the latest WWDC 2013, and as usual from Apple lately, we are disappointed :(

I never thought about a MBA, but i did a search and found that the latest updates to this line (to be more accurate form the mid-2012 model) are amazing! Even there’s many people use it for web design and development effectively! I know I will miss the ability to upgrade components like RAM or HDD, but who knows if the refreshed one will has this ability, just like the rMBP. Simply I will use it for 2 years or so then sell it for a new one.

I’m about to get a customized top line 13” MBA with 1.7Ghz Core i7, 256GB SSD and 8GB of RAM. Put in your mind that I’m not planning to use it as a primary machine, I still have my rock solid 2.5 years old “Hackintosh” which scores almost equal to mid-2011 27” iMac and 2008/2009 Mac Pro on Geekbench, i.e. it’s more powerful than enough. The Air will be my secondary/portable machine, but who knows, maybe I will fail in love with it and use it more than I think.

So, anybody want to stop me?

Finally received my first Envato Elite care package today! Thanks for everyone in Envato and many many thanks for my buyers, I couldn’t reach this achievement without you.

Package Contents:

  • The Elite T-Shirt – I was amazed that it fits me!! (I’m a big guy, 2XL) really great, sleek and stylish.
  • KeepCup Mug – Really cool!
  • TimTam – That was my best part in the pack, I was lucky that I got 2 of this, one original and one with caramel. Really delicious mmm…!!
  • Vegemite – Sadly still have issues accepting its taste :(.
  • Pen W/ USB – This was cool, I got 2 of this as well :)
  • The notebook – Cool a swell.
  • Stickers – I like it.
For everyone who still didn’t get this package, it look almost similar to this: http://themeforest.net/forums/thread/unboxing-the-envato-elite-care-package/76211

Again thank you everybody. It was cool, funny and brings happiness to my entire day :)

I’m sorry to ask again, but can someone clarify if according to RubenBristian and Enabled method will the normal screens will be served with those high res images too? If this is true it seems to be a poor solution in terms of bandwidth usage…

No, HiRes images will be served only when retina display is detected. Retina display will be detected using javascript, when detected a cookie will be generated then you can use php conditional statement to check the existence of this cookie, if it’s existing then generate image with x2 size (using one of the available image resizing scripts/technics) otherwise generate image with normal size. But to be sure that the x2 size will look sharp you need to upload already big images to the WP media library.

I finish my new theme and it will be retina ready. Way that i approached problem is to prepare all assets in two sizes one for standard displays and @2x for retina and i will recommend WP Retina 2x plugin.

I know some authors rely on WP Retina 2x plugin, but noticed that some buyers prefer to have everything built-in. But this is not a big deal I think. Good luck :D

And if this helps anyone, I also let the user to optionally enable/disable “retinafied” images. but keep the ability to have the logo, icons, backgrounds and any raster design element in retina resolution always enabled.
