There’s a lot of plugins for Joomla that you could use too, depending on what you need.

I guess I worded it wrong….I didn’t mean “Copycats” as in, copying everything….but “inspiring”.

You can feel a lot of Collis’ style in the templates is what I meant.

“Copy from one person, that’s called stealing. Copy from 5, that’s called research.” -Chet Atkins

I used to think that having JS degrade gracefully was a waiste of time….until I started watching how people navigate websites (especially those with slow computers, internet connections…..and….IE6).

What I’ve found is people often don’t wait for the JS to load, before clicking on something (they don’t even know it’s loading most the time). So, if the JS is the only way certain things work….the user instantly feels frustrated when he prematurely clicks on something. I’ve seen some things, where JS hasn’t loaded quick enough, go to a blank page or even worse things like freeze the page. Even if you’re preloading the javascript, using a library like jQuery, etc., this can still be an issue.

The issue with degradability isn’t just about if JS is enabled or disabled.

Anyone else notice that there are several templates on here that seem to copy Envato’s style? You know….the header/logo BG having a little bit of gradient light applied, etc?

I guess that’s a complement to whoever does Envato’s designs (Collis?).

You’re better off with a CMS or something like Contribute. However, if you know some PHP …...and have PHP5 running on the server (which I’m sure you do have it).....then SimpleXML object and it’s methods are great.

I am building a mini-cms for a handful of different uses that only uses XML files (no database). The backend loads the xml and can edit them, save them, etc. without the user ever knowing about it. (it’s still under dev though).

There’s several templates I would love to use for other things BUT it’s only for Wordpress.

I’ve already bought one and re-converted it for my uses…..but I think you could increase your sales if you don’t just make it for one system.

When I build website templates, I always build an HTML version of the PSD first, then convert it to whatever system it’s for (usually Joomla).

As a result, it takes me around 5 hours total (depending on the complexity). 3-4 for converting the whole design, and about one more hour to port it to whatever system it needs to be in.

So, if you’re already making the template in HTML , why not release it that way?

Also, why not release it in other systems like Joomla? The Joomla templates need some love on this site too. I was planning on releasing more for Joomla, but just haven’t had time (plus it doesn’t look like they are selling alot here).

The payback is pretty decent for referrals actually. I’m thinking about creating a landing page type site and sending people here….see how I do. :-)

my understanding of a valid XHTML /CSS is that the main, core code is standard.

If there are things like moz-border, -webkit..., etc. This doesn’t matter as it is just browser specific.

The main point that should be taken on this is that the structural code itself it correct.

I love macs for workflow (web development, etc.). Don’t mind Windows machines either….and don’t really understand why people dislike Vista…..I had it on an Alienware laptop of mine and it was pretty cool.

Still prefer mac.
