I’ve been meaning to post about this for a while. Our team has been working on developing a new theme and I feel like this feature is a must have. All we want is something that is simple but yet powerful. I am amazed at how many different authors (or so it appears) have re-invented the wheel and made their own. Honestly, I am a bit jealous! :)

That is one thing I wish more of the authors here on themeforest were able to do is work together on something open source like this. I probably don’t have much room to talk since I’m not an expert coder and am not capable of dedicating the time and expertise to such a product, but clearly other authors are using their own time and knowledge to do it themselves. It would be nice to see a standard options panel and layout builder for all authors to use and build upon so that we can keep themeforest at the front of the pack with wordpress development and technology. Just my 2 cents…

With all that being said, aside from Visual Composer and Aqua Page builder, are there any other options freely available to use? Also, ss there a way to package and automatically install one of these two plugins with a theme so that they can still be updated and act as a plugin, but they don’t have to be separately installed by the end user? It seems like customers have enough struggle installing themes, so I try to keep it simple and go for the fewest amount of steps.

Thanks in advance.

Inconsistent spacing, poor typography, just feels kinda unfinished y’know? -Scott

Sounds like you’ve been through the rejection process a time or two, too :)

Hey Guys,

I’m working on a new, personal blog/portfolio WP theme, Leap: http://ireed.net/leap

Last week, I submitted it for approval and was rejected with the following feedback:

This is a really nice start and I really dig the casual concept.

The main issue here is that the design is just too simple to be sold in the WP category. We do accept simpler designs but only for the very occasional mobile designs as well as v cards.

As is, as I mentioned, the design is too basic and lacks details to be sold as a premium theme.

The main issues are with the inner pages, the blog and portfolio specially. Focus on using a more unique layout to try and differentiate the design. As with details, there are very little visual cues in the design, designed to add originality to the design. To see this in action, use a solid background and you’ll see the sparseness.

I also asked the rest of the team and here is what they said:

“Feels incomplete—like in the middle of development”

“Nice concept but feels.. empty.”

I’m struggling to determine how to improve the layout/design – I’m “too close” to the project at this point to see things objectively. This is where I really need your help – based on the feedback given, how do you feel Leap can be improved?

Again, here is the link: http://ireed.net/leap/

Thanks for the help, Reid

The sad thing is the general public may see tools like this and then assume that all websites are built this way. Drag and drop, cookie cutter, easy. :/ However, it really takes several hours and thousands of lines of coding to come up with a truly awesomely crafted website.

I love it. Looks more serious/professional in my opinion. Going to take a little bit of getting used to, but this is exactly what themeforest (and the other sites) needed! Great job.
