Down under in Sydney we have just woken up to 13 pages on the GQ thread. Wow.
As someone mentioned, the specific issue is between GQ and FlashDen staff. However the issue of copyright infringment does need to be discussed. So I have started a new thread – to make it clear that we are talking about the issue – not the person.
There are a few files that have slipped by our reviewers and these have created some problems for flashden.
The problem is that often the files make use of copyrighted images and video. Sometimes the copyrighted material is merely used to demonstrate how the item functions (e.g. carousels and players), and sometimes it forms part of the design (e.g. a theme image).
These both constitute copyright infringement – unless if you have an agreement that allows you to use the material. So using someones else’s images from the net, portions of movie trailers or YouTube videos are a big no-no.
Copying design and code is more tricky. Each case needs to be judged on its own merit but we do need to err on the side of caution. That doesn’t mean there will be loads of ‘collateral damage’ from trigger happy staff here. But it does mean we will a little bit more picky.
Generally if the author thinks its been copied it probably is, and if anyone else notices something bogus please contact support, rather than say – messaging on the forums.
I find it is generally very easy to irritate people online and I would like to remind people to a. stay postive b. have a thick skin c. don’t give attention to situations you feel are inappopriate.
point a. includes those ‘feel good virtues’ like courtesy and politness even if you disagree with the message. This will greatly enhance the generaly vibe on the FD forums.
Sometimes we get it wrong and we will take author’s views into consideration – send a message via the support form. Also if a file sells particularly well then we are likely to increase its price slightly. You can get an idea of the prices simply looking through the items currently available.
@seifip – True, but it can’t run on air.
The job board is free to advertise on – so there is a stream of new jobs directed at Freelancers. We were going to charge the advertiser but that would have meant that jobs would slowly decrease and the board would have had to come down.
Hopefully $7 is low enough that you recover the cost in terms of the work you get. Of course everyone can/should/does advertise jobs here as well. I am just looking out for the job board as well…
Support/Assistance/Freelance Customisation etc are all clearly good things that I think we all agree should be encouraged.
I was particularly referring to someone sending emails to flashden members with a large list of items (belonging to many prominent authors) which they are then using to swap for new items. i.e. They are redistributing your files.
Hi Flashden denizens, Collis, Jun and I discussed the following matter and thought it best to let everyone know about the situation: Sadly, we have received several reports from our members that there is a person attempting to swap/trade flashden items directly via E-mail. We don’t think flashden authors will loose much, if any, revenue because the majority of buyers are very honorable; however it is the principle that matters. It’s very frustrating to see your copyright being infringed. So, if anyone else is contacted please do let us know (contact support and preferably do NOT post details on the forums) so that we can try and follow it up.
