best thing i can suggest to rule out any errors you may be causing with the installation to save time would be to give it a shot on XAMPP , try SSH though and make sure your cache is clean before install (this probably won’t make any difference but prevention of conflicts)

I’m testing on XAMPP at the moment for design purposes and saves a lot of time good luck!

and i hope some one can give you a definitive answer, just check and double check compatibility :)

all the best!

... guess you mean N E S W

As for learning, you should buy 1-2 themes with complete PSD included and study them a bit to see how it’s done. It’s something you teach yourself by practicing. It takes time, but it’s definately worth it. Good luck!

for sure ! ;) you got me!

Just a quick one really!

I’m glad everyone on themeforest here is doing their bit to keep this outstanding community amazing – after heading around a few forums here I’m seeing a lot of people with the shield badge, this pleases me greatly and knowing that everyone or most are looking out for one another.

Keep it up guys and gals!

you’re awesome!

Rich.

a little trial and error is a great learning curve :)

Also grab a free template from here if you have one study it and learn the CSS , visualise the code as imagery like

div.header {
        width:984px;
        height:82px;
        background-color:#336699;
}

this tells me the width and height and colour of the div (not be patronizing) but if you where to add padding lets say of 5px on the top and 5px on the bottom this changes the height overall (your cue to visualize)

it was 82px in height and is now 92px in height

lets say you want to keep that original height of 82px… think ahead! you know your going t increase the height because of the padding you apply 5px + 5px = 10px

so make your height 72px i.e

div.header {
        width:984px;
        height:72px; <!--adjusted to compensate-->
        background-color:#336699;
        padding:5px 0px 5px 0px;
}

think of applying padding this way like a compass:

im have read a few things regarding fireworks, can it automatically slice to css, is it wc3 complient ? i would probably have to go into the code and change for that, are there any video tutorials you know of? thanks for all the help guys really suprised and appreciated! had a look at top syle looks good as an editor, what would you say are the benifits of using this relating to my problems thx

In regards to using slice tools in FW – you could use this as a method to practice, and yeah it does use spacer gifs but you need to get to grips with layout too..

there’s no standard to dispel any myths that a layout should be 960px wide, however most designers choose this width as a means to a end, apple for example use 984px width and theres talk of wider site layouts on the horizon as becoming more standard (by which i mean you will start to see wider sites creeping in every once in a while) do your research on layouts per design, keep it clean and make your designs flow page to page focusing on content and don’t go OTT on graphics, draft your colour scheme and make notes on your goals and try to stick to your original intention as much as possible – a little trial and error is a great learning curve :)

I use Fireworks for all of my designs. The negative aspect of using Fireworks is you can’t select “PSD included”. It’s worth noting it’s not too hard to port the design over to a PSD , just need to group up the layers that don’t maintain their quality through to the PSD .

I agree yeah for sure, we should be allowed to offer both files both PSD & FW PNG though, this would make life a lot easier for some if not a lot of people…. maybe…

another check box in the submission area?

this would be nice if they could offer it here! :)

I don’t think you could get away with selling a Fireworks PNG as a “PSD Template”. However, i think if its bundled into a Website Template or WP Theme, then it would be OK. Just my opinion.

I wouldn’t want to sell a Fireworks PNG but include it for those people that can facilitate it if design modification would be needed. I generally tend to stray away from PS for design as it provides ‘too many’ tools that are even required for web design -

Fireworks does support Photoshop filters however if created from within fireworks

im gonna tell you what i like .. 1/ a website thats not clutterd up with massive sliding pics at the top of the page

Question… Do you like this site?

And by that I am assuming that sites like this are easy to read and navigate…

You make some valid points, the design is like a frame for the content – the real trick is making the frame ‘work’ for the content. ;)

i really wanted some more jands on help

The best thing i could suggest – and I await the poundings Photo shop evangelicals, would be to try getting to grips with a program from Adobe called Fireworks… I would at least recommend trying their demo as it provides with the tools to do what you appear to be grappling with.

In estimation Fireworks is much better suited to web design as it recognizes paragraph structure much better than Photoshop but also has the capability of opening, adjusting and saving PSD

I use Photoshop and Illustrator along with Indesign for print

Fireworks, Dreamweaver and Illustrator for web design – however fireworks can to some degree get you to were you need to be for the moment…

Good luck! :)
