Please: questions, comments, and critiques are all welcome.

This is a theme-in-progress. It’s called Chivalrie (http://chivalrie.zachlebar.com), and is designed to be a simple and elegant restaurant theme. In my opinion, the restaurant scene is one that’s sorely lacking when it comes to website design. I think that’s a real shame, because skilled chefs are artists in their own right, and deserve an artfully crafted website.

Being a theme, flexibility is essential. Chivalrie is built on a custom fluid grid framework, allowing for one, two, and three column layouts. Out of everything, please excuse the photography. I’m upset I couldn’t find better stock photos to use, because this theme – as any good restaurant site should – thrives on exceptional photography.

As I said above: questions, comments, and critiques are all welcome.

Hi all,

I’m looking to create my first admin skin, and as I’m just learning server side programming(PHP and Django to be precise), I’m not totally sure what the needs would be for an awesome admin skin. I’ve looked through the skins already on the site, and I’ve gotten a lot of inspiration, but I’ve also seen threads where people have complained about admin skins not being complete.

Basically this is both a cry for help, and a wish list for all you out there in need of an admin skin. What do you think mandatory for any good skin? What would you love to see in the admin theme of your dreams?

I really appreciate the advice. And I’ll be sure to keep the forums involved as I design the site.

Thanks, Zach LeBar

I’d have to agree with jonathan01, though I’m not representing Envato in any way shape or form, but personally, I’d be fine having a theme I made posted on your site if attribution was given to me as the designer.

In any event, I’m sure Jeffrey is floating around here…;) He’ll be able to answer your question better.

Hi all,

I’m a big fan of the sIFR technology, and was wondering whether or not including sIFR files and utilizing them in the design would present any legal/copyright issues.

I’m really not sure, as while the person can’t extract the font from the .swf file( at least I think no one can ), but they can use the file throughout the site. I don’t know if that would be stepping on any toes or not, and figured I should ask before I start designing with sIFR in mind, then having to redesign after the fact because it infringes on copyright.

thanks for the help,

zach

personally, I’ve never really though of audio as something used in HTML /CSS templates. I always saw this as the domain of Flash templates. Maybe I’ll start designing some, but only if there’s interest. I’m sure if you beat that drum of yours loud enough, you’d catch the attention of other developers too. If there are enough people clamoring for something, people will create it.

well, it seems everyone has given plenty of reasons why HTML tables are evil, but brittadn, im curious why…as you say…css templates are ugly, while requesting basically everything css templates do. What are the benefits you see from using HTML tables for your site design.

i too came after the Browser Wars and after the Rule of Tables, so i can’t help code one, but im curious why you want one, what the problems you see in CSS are.

@enyko – yea, that looks like it uses a database and some PHP code to do that. you might want to try and contact a coder and hire them to do that part of it, maybe purchasing a template here and letting them use that as the design, just handling the custom code portion. i’d offer, but im just not qualified yet. maybe you should check with the author of a particular theme u like.

oh…and btw, the Triworks “Full XML Website V3” is, im pretty sure, a Flash template. It might be easier for the coder of that music backend area if you stayed away from Flash.
