I noticed some things had changed in my ‘Earnings’ category, so I decided to check the GR forum, and stumbled across this feed. Looks like I’m not the only one who’s a little disappointed. Just curious @KingDog, why can’t we mention the competition? By now, everyone knows who we’re referring to. If you truly cared about your company and its contributors, you’d make a unilateral move every time you noticed your ‘competition’ do so. By now, all authors should be receiving a 70% commission rate, and you should let US control our own pricing. Respectfully, you’re biting the hand that feeds you. If you don’t adapt to your competition and stay relevant in the marketplace, your product will become obsolete. Economics 101.

adapt or become extinct, that is how evolution works ;)

Since it’s not allowed to post competitor link/name, so here it is the clue: acquired by Autodesk just a few months ago. :D

Wow really by autodesk! Envato is in serious trouble then, Autodesk does not joke around, whatever they take they destroy the competition and they are currently world leaders at what they do! This sounds promising for us :D

Maybe ask support about it.

Have you seen the length and insensitiveness of the first reply from Envato staff made in this thread? At least we should be happy someone gave us a reply instead of blocking this thread all together ;)

First thing I noticed when checking my stats was that my earnings rate was no longer 61% but 60%. So out of curiosity I went check the Envato Author Fee Schedule to check if there was any updates with their commission rates.
Your commission rate went down? That’s strange, I thought the commission for exclusive authors is supposed to have stayed exactly the same. Maybe ask support about it.

It could be a glitch in the Envastat extension but I doubt it. For example my main product got increased by $1 but I don’t get any benefits out of this increase. I still get the same rate I used to get when the file was $1 cheaper. However the file is more expensive which might affect my sales. On top of that I loose every $1 that was made with the transaction fee. I bet this would be a hard hit for authors of small value items. At the end of the day it seems like a win win situation for Envato. I simply cannot believe I’m going to leave more than $35,000 to Envato until I reach the max commission rate for a service this bad. I’ve had a lot of clients complaining the download system doesn’t work so I’ve had to provide them with external download links; The rating system is pretty bad; The review process even worse (even for the most insignificant update it takes a week for the change to take place and you have to re-upload the whole package, now imagine 1Gb files!). It is extremely hard to get a reply from Envato staff; I bring a lot of traffic to Graphicriver (relative to my sales) and most of the advertising I do it myself; We have very little input in the pricing of items and maybe the most significant negative point is that Graphicriver items are the first target for piracy and very little is done to protect us against it (they are simply ignoring the elephant in the room).

The exact same post I made before in this thread was banned in another thread, I wish I could do that with some of my clients comments and ratings… Ignoring clients (us) won’t stop the issue and people will slowly look for alternatives. They should be happy we are showing signs of frustration instead of us leaving the marketplace without notice. If we take time to do this is because we care about this marketplace and we would love to see this issues resolved.

First thing I noticed when checking my stats was that my earnings rate was no longer 61% but 60%. So out of curiosity I went check the Envato Author Fee Schedule to check if there was any updates with their commission rates.

I got super excited when I saw at $75.000 the commission rate was 12.5%, I said to myself “WOW finally Envato has done something for us authors and they are finally catching up with other marketplaces” but knowing how stingy Envato is I went check the forums to see if this was real. As I read through this thread I quickly realised that Envato did not change a thing (surprise surprise)... Basically they just made changes for the sake of adding more confusion and complexity to their commission system so they could pay less taxes and confuse new authors to think they will reach 87.5% (instead of the old 70%) at $75.000.

Also the recent +$1 increase in item prices is now sort of useless for us. Just makes our clients think we keep increasing our prices to our benefit when in reality that is not the case…

WELL DONE Envato! :) I’m another step closer to change marketplace…

ps: Remember the authors here are your clients, keeping your clients happy is always the N1 rule to keep business going on, never forget that.

Yesterday I write a script like unzip_data and pack it with some garbage data to fit exact size of documents like my item from gr. I uploaded it everywhere so if stealer want to unzip that garbage data it will not unzip my data for him. Guess what script will do :)

If you are stealer, you’ll punish yourself…

What about this idea?

Next version should be os independent… :)
I dont understand… ok let say, im the giraffe. i purcahase the file(s) from here so i can unzip it, then zip it again or rar or whatever then sell it – share it on an another site. Oh… and i dont forget about the refund….

I think he meant uploading a fake file or corrupted zip file in one of those giraffe sites, since most giraffes don’t even bother uploading the file again but just copy the download links from the first giraffe, it will infuriate those who download the corrupted file thinking they got the deal. There is potential for this to work ;) I will take it to the next level and create a virus :P

Hi guys;

It’s clear and simple we can’t stop Giraffes because we are some individual designers and if we will spend all our time fetching links and sending DCMA we will not founding time to create our designs.

But the problem is in Envato the biggest company with a lot of employers around the world and payed with our money, and really until now from 1 year when this subject is opened I don’t see any positive reaction and REAL SOLUTIONS provided for this problem like the Envato company don’t interest or he accept this the GIRAFFES method, because there are a lot solutions can be applied to at least reducing this traffic because now 95% of my portfolio is for free and my sales is down about 60% WHAY ?? we need to accept this state and continue working.

Really I respect all STAFF , REVIEWERS , ADMIN , AUTHORS ,BUYERS but I really feel that this place is not our home but is our JAIL and we are the SLAVES of GIRAFFES + ENVATO.

Really Sorry and Good luck For all.

Best regards, BaGeRa.

If somehow we could include a code somewhere hidden in one of the photoshop layers for every individual sale we could identify the giraffes and ban their IP from the market place. At least that could be a good start. At the end of the day is all about the costumer understanding the impact this is having on us and if they wish to have more files in the future to support us. Maybe adding a note on each file about the importance of supporting our work (without mentioning the giraffes) so you have less risk of informing people about this things.
