I want to create a feature into my item that requires the user to connect to my server and provide their purchase code before allowing installation to be completed. Providing the correct info will copy over crucial files or data to his site that will allow my item work on his site. Is this allowed?

My reason for this is that my sales have sharply reduced last week due to w*rez downloads… down from an average of 13 per week to 3 last week.

So, is this allowed?

UPDATE:

I saw this link and people seem to like the idea but it does bring up an issue like:

purethemes said Many buyers have problems with the simplest things in WordPress, even finding Purchase code to verify support request is sometimes a problem, so good luck with that. It will just irritate most of buyers, and confuse the rest resulting in many 1 star ratings.

Hi,

I’ve recently started asking customers that request support through email to provide their purchase code. This is because the number of illegal downloaders of my item has increased and they are asking for support (pure madness).

The down side to requesting purchase codes is that customers usually take up to 4 days to respond to the ticket request which throws my support schedule out-of-whack. Is there a better way of doing this? I use OsTicket which is perfect for my needs and don’t want to have to change systems.

How do you guys handle requesting for purchase codes? And how do you handle it if you have multiple items?

Thanks

I can’t remember the last time I even opened Photoshop, not much need these days.

I still use Photoshop but for the homepage only and I don’t put too much detail in PSD anymore. Just for quick prototyping I guess.

Do web developers/designers still “slice” PSD designs? It hit me a few days ago the I haven’t done this in a while (2-3 years). With HTML5/CSS3 there’s no need to cut out a shadow from the PSD design and use it as a background or find a tricky way to handle circular image, etc…

So, when was the last time you actually sliced a design to use in a project?

Thanks for all the answers! I sent this thread to the customer to help him a make a decision on which is best for him.

This doesn’t mean the answers should stop coming though. All feedback is welcome. :)

Hi,

A customer recently asked if he could use a single license for multiple installations on his sub-domains. Is this allowed? I’m looking over the licensing and haven’t found an answer.

Thanks

When your sales drop significantly, check your analytics stats to see your items traffic sources….

Until 23 September I usually had 50 daily visits with approximately 3-4 sales.

From 23 September until today I noticed an important increase in page views (1200 daily visits) but fewer sales.

So I had a look on my analytics stats and surprise: 800-900-1000 daily visits from w…z websites and link anonymize websites.

LATER EDIT: (maybe this is an unfair competition game coming from competitors?)

Roughly the same thing happened to me. Sales have been cut down by a third. Emailed support to see what they can do to take those sites down.
