No one is trying to hide anything, just reduce the amount of silly comments often made people who have not bought the file and have no intention to do so.Removing spam is one thing. Removing comments by real people on the grounds that you deem them ‘silly’ is entirely different. It supports the biased assumption that certain opinions or expressions should, by default, be erased. This is precisely why the leap was necessary.
I’m not saying that critical comments should be removed but – sadly – you often times get people going personal or leaving comments with no use at all. Those comments get deleted by the staff anyway (while critique will never be removed, which is a good thing) but it takes a while and will hurt sales so long. Getting a critical comment can be very useful as it gives the author the change to clear things up. But there have been cases in which users “stalked” authors files to be the first to leave a bad comment b/c of personal reasons until their account gets banned by envato.
people asked for the comments to be moved to a different page since I first signed up to the marketplaces. There is a large amount of posts from authors complaining about unfair, bad and sometimes stupid comments that hurt their sales
“Don’t buy this because it doesn’t open with MS paint” etc.
As soon as the comments are back on the item page, people will start asking for them to be removed again…
it happened to all of us sit back down in a couple of days…
there a times with low sales and times with very good sales – it varies a lot. I found that it is not THAT important to be on the frontpage for a very long time. There are files that pop up in the weekly bestseller list even though they are quiet a few months old. Also, I have many items that sell slow but steady for quiet a while now.
As hansv said: just keep uploading quality stuff – it will pay off in the end
great – I’ll defenately make use of the FAQ ’s in the future!
I don’t know if they are planning a marketplace for images – but they probably thought about it. I don’t know if it’s such a good idea as there are so many stock photo site around…
I actually think it’s a good thing – there has been so many topics like “Are the reviewers sleeping?” that doens’ tmake a really good first impression to new customers / authors
