I use FL Studio since ever, but I actually tried to use other DAW’s through demos, but never actually could get something done within a time of 20 – 30 minutes, trying to figure it out myself and asked myself why is it so complicated?
I tried Reaper, Studio one, Ableton. for my personal preference Ableton was the best of them to work with.
I didn’t tried Cubase, Nuendo, Reason, Sonar yet. Cubase 3 once I think, but not the newer ones.
so can someone give me some recommendations, tips or advice. as you can see from my AJ portfolio, I’m still kind of a newbie/part-time musician (at least from my point of view).
Agree, BUT authors have to be awarded too, or else we will have to look for other options.
sure, but don’t award them with higher prices, it’ll get worse!
also, if they switch to swiss francs for example then you can still loose if the euro is strengthening against the swiss franc.
the swiss franc was so far the most reliable currency, as far as I see it, thousands of foreign people from other countries and continents making bank accounts here, the CHF rarely changes it’s course drastically.. even some american rapper made a song called “swiss francs”, he’s clearly not proud of the us dollar right now
but on a serious note, in usa’s current state.. I can’t see how the dollar is going to rise again in the next years! increasing prices is definetely the wrong way! they’re great the way they are, affordable!
+1 from me as well for SonicCube’s and BCrutchfield’s opinions, a Shopping Cart sounds interesting and would speed up the whole buying process and make a lot of life’s easier and save time!
the AJ player in particular would maybe benefit if it’ll work in HTML5 only…. that said, I’m not sure if the performance is ready that it’ll better than flash in general.
what I really miss tho, is the waveform effect which was displayed in the ‘black nirvana’ in the item page, actually loved that visualization… maybe nothing necessary, but it added to the feel being a stock music website!
depends on what you want and how much concepts and how complex it is! but $400 – $1500 is average! everyone who charges less is doing you a favor! to give you an example, I made the logo for > aepal.com

it’s not the same, if they use our songs for their files, it’s not much of a hassle….. they download the audio and add a link to the description… basically they promote us.
but if you use their previews on youtube, you’re 1. on a different network & 2. they have to send you a free copy of the AE project file which might not be under 100mb I suppose (and they probably not happy to give out their work for free). or even render the video for you because you have no AE or they won’t give you the source file, rendering takes time. and time is money.
so I can understand why they’re disagreeing, it’s easy to download a watermarked song, but an AJ author wouldn’t send the source file aswell….. kinda the same right?
it’s free promotion for AJ, how could you disagree to that? since you pay them nothing and they present your audio in the best light, if it’s a good choice that fits the video, sales going to rain.
@Jen which kind of DAW do you use? Logic?
as graphic designer, I worked with a mac 4 months long (so not in particular music production)... but I just find myself less productive with it, I guess in the end it’s whatever works best for you. few years back the iMac sounded interesting, but now there’s dozen of All-in-one’s from Dell, Lenovo and Asus which work and look just as great…. while the iMac abandoned the CD/DVD drive!
One can use a Mac with Logic and produce not-so-great music, and another can use Windows with for example FL or Ableton and do top quality music… either or the other way around, in the end it depends on the guy behind the keys, right?! and what system makes you more productive.
6 months later take a look at windows 8, and tell me if OSX is still better regarding innovation and performance?
microsoft innovated with the latest OS Windows 8, once you’ve got the hang out of it (after around 5 – 10 minutes) it’s easy, simple & charming.
now apple went with the same Userinterface on OSX for years, can’t think of 1 significant feature or innovation they did for their OS. it’s still glossy, and the icons and interface still as dated as before.
obviously it doesn’t matter, whatever works for you… but as far as the question of this thread goes, Windows still has 90% of the market share, where OSX has the rest. they sold 40 million windows 8 licenses in 1 week if I remember right.
