I have to say that part of being a designer is being able to tell how tallented you are compared to others.
heres a little story
I have only been doing art stuff a few years i was an accountant and always worked with numbers. i did not enjoy it so i tried to find something else i could do that i enjoy, and at the time i was really into buillding computers, when surfing the web i came aross a photomanipulation contest site and i thought it looked good, so i started entering them.
my first contest i came 78/81, you cant see the other entries till the contest is over si i did not know what everybody elses looks like, i felt pretty bad about it so i looked at the list of entries which were in order of 1st to last, and as soon as i saw the winning entry i understood why i had done so bad.
so i messaged the person that won and said well done really like the entry explained i had entered and had not done well and asked him what material he had found useful when he was learning photoshop, he was very helpful and gave me the name a some book, i got them straight away. be he was also helpful and described why my file had done so bad.
So i got cracking with the tutrials and kept practicing as much as possible. i then entered another contest and this time i came 8/120 and got awarded a jury star (which is for the jurys fav 10 submisions) i was very happy with this, and continued to practice and practice, the next contest i came 1/89 i was really happy i had done it
The point i am making is i was aware of my level and underestood i needed to improve and it was my realising this fact that aloud me to progress, when ever i create any thing for sale i ask my self would i buy this file, if the answer is no, then i think then what can i improve.
I understand that there are alot of people better that me so i look at there work and mine to see if i can see what makes theirs special and mine just good. and i always read artices to help me understand the market i am designing for!
hope this rant was of use to some people, and remember there is always some one out there better than you, so always stive to make each piece better that the last more creative more original, never be happy with where you at always aim forward.

The biggest thing that stick out to me is you have use lens flares, they were popular a few years back but not now, they are very dated and dont look professional.
The other thing is you have use the maple bruch that comes with photoshop which is bad as nearly everbody can reconise that fact and are unlikely to be up for paying for it!
My advice would be look at the highest selling header files on the site and just try to make some thing simmilar but an improved version, i.e dont just copy it.

Hey HollowIchigo,I think you should show some set-ups for work, how to prepare the scene for test renderings, what lights to use, what shadows, what materials, etc, and , why not, for the final renderings, too.
I would personally like to see ways to make creases blend into curved surfaces, things like that.
My problem is rendering is not my strogest point, i normally texture things then the rest is handeled in a game engine,
I was going to haqve the first tutorial as a modlling one the next uw mapping of object then texturing and maybee post processing as the last one.
but it is deciding what to do the model on as i dont know what people would most like to see, i want it to be something different that does not have lot of tutorial already coveing it!

I like the models, especially the gun.You should make a tutorial with what you know better, chose a model and try to show your way of work. A complete workflow should be desirable, like find reference, build the model, apply texture, render, tweak final image in photoshop (eventual).
But you should be carefully what you create, as for example the truck needs some tweaking to look more like a professional model. I don’t say its not a good model, only that some area may be improved.
cheers for the comment, the truck was done for a speed modelling contest with a deadline of 80 mins, so what i came up with was such a stretch to do in that time period i had to go for an overalll look than a finely polished model, if i was modelling it properly i would have spent more that 4 or 5 hours!

Hey
I am looking to create a tutorial for CG tuts, it will be on how to model in 3ds Max
I was wondering if there are any particular things people would like to know how to model, please bear in mind i am a hard surface modeller, which mean i create building vechiles and so on.
below is a selection of a few models i have done, it is not to promote them as none are for sale, just to show the sorts of things i have done
would be good to find out what sort of thing people are looking for
