I contacted envato almost 2 times on same partnership problem, as we also work with several authors on themeforest and receiving our monthly share is a big pain.
Themeforest really needs to introduce a method to send or receive money within authors using themeforest.
A working example of this system is freelancer.com.
Where a user can send money to another user easily.
That’s a very good start if you ask me, you can boost up your sales with good support and continuously updating the design. All the best!
In my opinion you’ve got skill but there are few things that I can suggest.
1- Stop using funny fonts, work on your typography for small sizes.
2- Try to create new things in every single section of the design and try to come up with something that’s not already there.
3- Work on your color harmony, color selection. Typography contrast with respect to the background. Colors can be fun but try to put a reason behind it, why you’re using a color what it represents.
4- You should know what you’re designing and what it represents and how it’s interesting and beneficial for the end user and most importantly how functional it is practically speaking.
5- And most important of all, don’t get tired, keep doing what you’re and you’ll get where you want to be.
All the best!
I understand your points but why envato would be responsible?
When designs are not leaving my profile and there are almost no chances whatsoever of copyrights being violated as I’m the creator of a design and all of its coded versions would also be uploaded form my profile but will be managed by respective authors under sub ordinate accounts for all the collaborations.
All the issues you’re mentioning I believe happen when a file is wide spread on different accounts and sole creator of the file is left alone behind.
As far as every design being different and each agreement having different terms is concerned that would stay the same as it is right now, the whole idea of this upgrade would be designs being owned by the one sole owner and uploaded from the same profile hence no copyright violations and the sub ordinate authors would only receive their agreed sales share as per the agreement between the two parties.
I still wouldn’t disagree if there are any legal issues involved but those can’t be of very serious nature and I doubt it because it’s just like someone is working on your wordpress website not as an admin rather having a junior or an account which has limited access.
For the payment/money transfer with in accounts, that might have some legal issues or some payment gateways issues etc but that’s also not something which can’t be implemented.
Envato is a rock star in online marketplaces business and if new features which support/help authors are introduced they’ll help increase the reputation and ease the process of partnerships on here.
While it would all be good and @GfxPartner – i see your points it would be a massive update for envato and I am pretty sure there are legal reasons why some of the ideas would not be possible.
As far as massive is concerned that shouldn’t be a problem because I don’t see envato being less than massive in terms of resources or capital.
For the legal part many websites provide payment or money transfer with in different accounts, freelancer.com is one of them.
As far as sub ordinate accounts are concerned I’m not sure if there are any legal issues associated because its only about giving a person some rights over my profile which would be limited and he’ll be working as a partner hence will receive the agreed share.
I really like this idea and I totally support it.
My designs are in PSD category and I’ve to give away my designs in order to get them launched in any coded versions and they eventually leave my profile and publish from another author’s profile because of issues like providing support and future updates for the design.
One solution to this problem could be introducing a functionality of adding sub ordinate accounts to a profile or giving limited access to the authors I’m collaborating with.
Hence they’ll be able to manage the designs, comment on them (Because I’m a designer and I can’t comment on issues which are related to code), make updates and provide support but still designs will be in my profile.
Also there should be functionality where authors could send payments with in themeforest to each other.
Many of the authors don’t use paypal or not have that option in their countries and they can’t receive their shares easily. But if there’s an option to transfer money with in accounts one could easily withdraw the shares they receive using their respective withdrawal methods.
I’m saying all this because I’m the one producing designs and the author who’s coding it will become Elite author before I do which sounds little unfair.
