Hi itsGonz,

It can be hard to get started sometimes, but using the rejections as a positive experience is a good thing.

I think the typography and alignment could use some work, especially where you are highlighting bands in the middle.

Also note that you can’t use real social media icons in your flyers – that is now considered a no no. I believe it also extends to placing in the names of real bands / musicians.

I like the flat / abstract designs, and I think you are headed in the right direction, but those additional touches will help.

Honestly the entire thing is a bit too plain. There are lots of brochures / catalogue templates already present on the store, why should someone spend money on yours when they can pay the same, get a lot more variety / functionality?

Also, I’m pretty sure the review team frowns on lorem ipsum language fillers, or just random words chosen to fill a space. Both don’t look appealing. I would try to preview it with real content of some kind.

The two areas that you are trying to submit work for (Business Cards & Logos) are also two of the most difficult to successfully get work approved for.

Since business cards are so popular, the marketplace is oversaturated with designs – very few get accepted and need to be significantly different.

Logos have to be great quality, and something that could be usable for a wide range of purposes. I don’t feel the sample you provided is reusable or aesthetically appealing.

Take a look at the marketplace and see what other kind of designs are popular / present, and keep on keepin’ on.

Hey borneafandri,

As a newcomer, I would suggest a few things:

1-If you are designing for a print object, start your file in CMYK. 2-Watch a few tutorials on how the spectrum of CMYK compares to RGB. 3-Learn how to maximize / tinker with adjustment layers in CMYK to get a diverse spectrum of colors.

Hope this helps – this was the almost verbatim advice someone gave me at one time.

Big Noodle Titling & League Gothic are too free & popular fonts used for footer text, you may want to try them rather than Devils Breeze. Devil Breeze is a fun font – I would use it in templates but 100,000 other people have already used it.

Hi redinkblot,

Personally I like it, I would guess that the reason is maybe it is too specific / peculiar to fit a different company. I think that font combined with the image really makes it particular – I think a company would have to wrap itself around your logo rather than your template fitting the company.

Sorry I’m not much help – but I think the design is good.

Hey there Chaush,

It can be hard to get started, so I’ll help out with some basics.

-The fonts don’t really mix well. The serif font you used really doesn’t look great. -Layer styles are very simple, not very appealing. -Overall theme: I see kind of where it is going, but most clubs don’t really follow this style for when they make flyers / posters. If you were a club owner / patron / designer, would this flyer appeal to you?

I would recommend buying an artist’s flyer that you like and take a look at what they do for layer styles, organization, and overall back end mechanics.

Hope this helps – best of luck!

In my experience it is better to spend the extra cash and get the more premier item – especially something that will be a tool, entertainment, and work device for you for a few years to come.

Go with the Pro!

Hey ProcopComfort,

I think you are headed in a good direction, however I think there are some things that could use improvement.

-Typography: none of the text really stands out, and most of the text is hard to read / not aligned with the back plates. -It seems to be a mix between grunge and I’m not sure what – just doesn’t have an appealing direction. -Too focused / specific – templates should have a good use, I’m not sure what this one would really be used to promote.

Best of luck!
