I setup a response time monitor for Themeforest a week ago. This is pretty typical of the last week. Here’s a graph of the last 24 hours:

Big spikes are taking 5-20 seconds to get any response (TTFB not page load). Monitor is in Dallas, Texas, USA.

Take a guess what this does to sales. Envato needs to earn their 30% or more, and this isn’t cutting it. The marketplace is not accessible to buyers.

Same situation 24 hours later (actually worse):

Another 24 hours, same pattern:

5. Wondering why don’t you let authors decide about support pricing?

I’d like to know too. I believe there are some laws in Australia that prevent Envato from letting us set our own product prices. I assume it’s the same with support pricing.

It would be ideal if we could set our own support pricing, if not product pricing. Support is an hourly thing and we all have different rates for different reasons. If you earn $50/hour and somebody offers you work at $15/hour, you say no. It’d be a shame if an author feels they cannot offer support at the price that is set for them. Different places have different costs of living, you know?

Not true. The law prevents businesses from discussing and colluding to set prices (high) so customers have little choice.

Envato chooses to disallow authors from setting prices because it benefits them. There’s no law that says a business cannot set a price in a marketplace. That’s insane. Envato is working the puppet strings for themselves.

The screenshots and support policy are not consistent.

The screenshots include three bullets:
http://marketblog.envato.com/general/get-ready-for-the-new-item-support-policy-launching-september-1st/

1. Quality checked by Envato
2. Version updates
3. XYZ supports / does not support this item

The only difference between supported / unsupported is #3 being checked or not.

The support policy contradicts this:
http://themeforest.net/page/support_definition

It states that updates are part of item support, when the screenshots clearly show this is expected of all items (i.e. not part of extended support). Are authors required to keep their item updated or not if they opt of of the new support policy?

Why not a Ducati Monster?

The Monster is an incredible platform (the Scrambler has its 796 air-cooled engine), but I like really lean looking bikes. Monsters feel thick when you’re sitting on them. I already have two 1979 Yamaha SR500s and the Scrambler is just like that era of bikes, but with modern components and technology like ABS — but without all the fancy traction modes and water cooling.

For the price of 1 dream car, you can buy 10 dream motorcycles and keep them all in a 2-car garage.

Just bought #3 this weekend: Ducati Scrambler. Won’t be delivered for 4-10 months though…

How much it cost you?

$8500 base but $10,100 after freight / tax / registration / paperwork (no accessories).
