I think the big point here isn’t that there is one or two little spots with self promotion. I have just been in the back end of a wordpress theme that I purchased here and the admin area showed…And I am not kidding, an entire web page with many more themes for purchase. This person turned a big portion of the admin area into another marketplace to sell his themes. Now I am no expert, but what kind of performance issues will calling all those extra images and links do to a persons site. The issue here isn’t one header logo or text link. The original post talked about an entire page dedicated to it as I just talked about.
Sounds like the woo themes admin panel. Which really, I don’t see what the big deal is unless as EugeneO put it…
they haven’t been completely clear where the theme has come from.
An admin page is not effecting the performance of the the website and if it’s a tab it’s not effecting use of the theme admin.

I guess I’m in the camp that believes too many people are buying themes and selling them as if they created them, which is fine, but they don’t have the skills or want to bother with removing branding.

For $35 bucks, I think authors should be able to include a little branding and self promotion. Bump the prices up to the $70 range and I might change my tune.

You are missing the point my friend. You and others keep using the words “Little branding”. When you post an entire web site into the admin area, that is not a “Little Branding”. No one said that they wanted to resell the themes. The original post was about purchasing “Premium themes”. Normally, the word Premium implies no advertising. I have no issue with a little branding but I think an entire website posted in the admin area is a bit much

I really really hope they bring back dedicated servers and give us mappers/modders tools to make some custom stuff.

My customer wants to know what she should tell him about what the charge is. I have no idea what to tell my customer. Any advice on this would be awesome..

google it. There is no shortage of tutorials on the web. You can also go to wordpress website and read through the codex, there is tons of information there.

that is a good point, but those slices can easily be re sliced. Most customers don’t have the skills to modify a jpg, or a png. They need the image with all the layers. I think my main point is that by making slices, you can cut down on the amount of support requests you receive from your customers

I have to disagree with this style of getting your images from the psd. As a buyer and developer of themes. I have found that it sure is nice when there are slices because that means I do not have to go through all the steps that you just described in this video to remake the images.

I like slices and the reason for that is that once you do it, they are always there. If I go back later to touch up or make the theme better, those slices are still there. I think it makes for easy customization of the images once your theme has sold.

I also believe that making the slices would cut down on the amount of emails that you get from your customers. Like you said chris, you had to make a video just to show your customers the “New and better way” to make slices. It does not look faster to me either. That is not to say that it isn’t faster, but I think I will stick with slices for the biggest reason that once I make them, I will be able to benefit from them every time I open up that psd
