I believe, Widgetized areas should only be declared within the theme as those are related to theme and not related to a plugin. Just make sure that every widget ( standard / custom ) works in every widgetized area provided within the theme. You can also use this plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/monster-widget/ while testing widget styles.
As for as custom widgets are concerned, If a custom widget is based on a custom post type that is being provided using a plugin then that custom widget should be a part of that same plugin. But, If a custom widget is generic, like a form or tabbed posts etc then that can be a part of the theme.
I hope it will help.
Thanks & Regards
It is allowed since those themes are not selling on TF so what they will gonna do with them sell or give for free or for $43 is on their own.
I don’t think this is allowed, as this is adding incentive to a TF purchase, which is essentially gaming this system of sales (TF) and creating an unfair playing field.
I have roughly 10 – 20 themes that are not on TF that I could give away for free with any verified TF purchase, but I don’t because that’s not creating a fair and level playing field.Flagged for staff reply.
Fully Agree, This should not be allowed.
I just want to share my experience of dealing with Akshay Sachdeva ( Elite Program Manager )
I had a problem related to one of my item and I was working with envato support team to solve it but that problem was bit unique in nature and support team was applying the standard solution to it which was not fair/suitable to me. So, I asked Akshay Sachdeva to help me communicate the unique nature of my problem to support team and he understood my side and communicated it really well to support team and in the end we had a win win for both sides.
So, I think that was something great that Akshay did for me and I really appreciate him for all this help.
Thanks & Regards
I just started checking this out today ( I was unable to attend the work for few days ) and looks like things are pretty heated.
I just wanted to appreciate the Envato Team for their efforts, courage and patience. Keep up the great work guys
I am also very thankful to fellow authors for spending time and energies in expressing their point of view. I am confident that it will not be wasted and things will turn out well for all of us.
Thanks & Regards
Thanks for mentioning Real Homes theme
I try to keep my author dashboard clean and make sure I have replied/read every comment. But, Sometime I want to keep some comments there for a longer time ( for later follow-up / reply ) and I want to mark others as read.
So, I think there should be button/icon to mark a comment as read individually. right now there is only one button at the top to mark all as read.
I am hoping that may be other authors want the same thing and a collective request will get it implemented.
Looking forward to how it goes…:)
I am using MT for my theme demos from last two years and very satisfied till now.
I was worried when I came to know that GoDaddy bought MT, But I decided to stay there until I have problems.
Plus, I think GoDaddy bought MT to cover web professionals and they will not try to make it like their existing setup as that is already covering other customers.
You might have already read the following articlehttp://notes.envato.com/news/update-wordpress-theme-submission-requirements/
Please pay attention to its heading “Why move functionality into plugins instead of themes?”
