Holy crap, that is a great idea! It looks great! Thanks for sharing!
Interesting stuff, thanks guys. On YouTube is it pretty much the same as everywhere else to generate hits, a few uploads and decent tagging/titles?
Yes, it’s pretty much the same, but YouTube also lets you use A LOT more tags, so you could get a little more reach than you would elsewhere.
For my YouTube videos I use a still image with an audio spectrum generated through after effects, but that’s just to spice it up a little. I try to keep it simple because I could easily fall down the video editing rabbit hole when making videos and then have less time to work on music. YouTube has been great to me, I have gotten several referrals from new buyers discovering my music and AJ at the same time.
Mike, I am on all those sites you listed above, including my own website. I was putting the question out there to see if there is any other type of media sites out there where you could upload previews. I’m surprised there isn’t some kind of Soundcloud clone out there we could use. If there is, I couldn’t find it!
Hmmm, I guess the title was too generic.
OK, so we all know you should get your music out on Youtube, Soundcloud, and Vimeo. Are there any other sites my fellow authors are using to promote their music?
One I found is dailymotion, which kind of feels like a youtube “light”. Any other recommendations?
I don’t like that they overdubbed one of the cellos at one point, but still impressive!
A couple of my favorites…
“A painter paints his pictures on canvas. But musicians paint their pictures on silence. We provide the music, and you provide the silence.” Leopold Stokowski “One good thing about music, when it hits- you feel no pain” Bob Marley
I got into Porcupine Tree about 7 years ago and they quickly became one of my favorite bands. I was primarily listening to metal at the time and PT kind of broadened my outlook on what can be done when writing music. It’s also exciting when you get into a band and realize they have a huge backlog of material to go through. I’ve seen them twice since then and they are one if the best live bands I’ve seen, and I’ve seen a lot.
Can you tell I like PT? Haha
