Some months ago I had my first item approved here on Theme Forest, since then I’ve had a stable source of income, however my concern is about the sustainability of this business as the time goes by technologies trend to change fast.
Do you believe we will still have terrain to explore in the business of selling WP Themes or we are closer to super saturated market and this way is more secure to invest the income in a more secure business? I am sharing these thoughts since this is my main source of income and I am not sure about what future will bring about this.
...which is unethical considering that will affect peoples incomes, families and motivation to succeed here.
That’s exactly the point I can’t understand how a big company like this is able to take such silly, irresponsible and amateur decision like that.
You should remember and keep on mind some of us make this as main job we have families, bills to pay, dreams and others reasons to complain about these changes that has affected drastically our sales, today is august, 5 (my time zone) and I’ve no sales at all, before this change I had sales enough to be happy and confident about my income now I have to think to search for another activity/job since this is not a profitable neither fair environment anymore.
You guys took our sales and gave to top authors, remember this company was built with the community, you at least should hear our concerns and comments. Of course I don’t have sales to make a difference for you, but if I lost my sales and all the other authors lose sales too, in fact you’ll have a big impact even with huge income from top authors. The point is: Don’t make such kind of irresponsible and unpredictable change this is our job we need that. I am loosing money for sure is not all about money but I am seeing the job I love go down and everything because a decision you’ve made and we don’t know your motivation neither reasons. Sorry for my hard words but I think you got the point.
@justinfrench is it too hard to put categories links back and make a test so we can see if our sales get better? Is to too hard to hear from us and take our comments into account?
EDIT: Maybe you are not seeing sales on my profile, I work as wp developer partner for another user. The items are published on his account.
If several authors are reporting low sales something is wrong about new homepage, I see some people here saying it’s good but you are talking about visual (even visual is not good enough at my opinion) we are talking about FUNCTIONALITY, we could have the most beautiful homepage on earth but if we get no sales how good is it?
So I insist to say if we are reporting low sales here, you envato need to do something. I don’t think envato or whatever company in planet think no sales is good, good selling environment is good for everyone for us authors and for you our mother company.
Please reconsider put the links back out of dropdown list, hear our request, if you are making tests and tweaks why not test with links back and so we will report our sales and you will see the best approach. I think you are believing this is really working but is not, before this new homepage model as I said other times I had 4-5 sales a day, now I have 0 sales a day? Is this fine for you? Don’t need sales anymore?
Honestly I can’t understand if you are having sales with the old model why change that, you have to know you don’t have to change a team when they are winning this is rule for business. Other way maybe you are wanting to give the chance to competitors marketplaces grow and win the game.
Thanks so much for all of your feedback, praise, insights and constructive criticism.
We’ve carefully reviewed the analytics data and things are looking really good overall. In particular, we’ve seen an increase in the number of searches started from the home page — there’s a strong link between searches and conversions, so this is a great development for both buyers and authors.
One of the biggest areas of concern raised here is that we’ve hidden the new item category links behind a drop-down box (as well as pushing that entire section further down the page). Overall, we’ve seen no change in the number of “new items” being clicked on from the home page. However, we don’t have any measurement in place to understand if the drop-down box changed behaviour, so we’ll look at some new designs for that section and get the missing metrics in place. We need to wrap-up this particular A/B test to make way for some other changes. Given the positive data results, we’ll be rolling it out to 100% shortly. However, this doesn’t mean we’re done. We will continue to watch for trends in the metrics (as well as your feedback) and make changes that we believe can bring the biggest benefit to the community overall.
GREAT… and since you’ve made that my sales now stay in zero, no sales after this ‘revolution’ I don’t know what to do since this is my job for living, before you started with this new homepage my sales were 4-5 a day (i mean me and my partner, i’ve an item published on my partner account) and since the new homepage came out now our sales are absolutely ZERO congratulations this is a good strategy for business to kill beginners author and enlarge who is already big. I can’t understand this decision if you can make money with everybody why should you concentrate in just a few? Can you explain why the sales went down after this change? Not only me but several authors here have experienced the same. Very disappointed with envato
....and consequently kill beginners authors and their dreams…
I think the job here is to improve things if envato staff is being alerted sales from authors has stopped they need to do something since they also get money with new/small authors.
Hours has passed away since envato made this mess and still no sales, coincidence or not my sales has stopped since this ‘brilliant’ idea from envato came out. Everything was fine with old homepage now no sales I am worried since this is my work for living. Other authors have mentioned their sales has stopped too. Coincidence???
My main concern about the new design is its negative impact over sales, I think this new design tend to benefit top authors and featured items, maybe beginning authors will get lost on a long term run since they items is not marked as featured. Coincidence or not on first day of new design our sales (me and my partner) are a little bit slow, previous sales with old design was in a good rate 4-6 a day. I think envato staff should consider proper competitor rules so everybody can get their room for sales here.
I gave a look in your theme and I can say for sure your theme looks like very professional, I’m also asking myself the same question.
it seems that there is a strong resistance to beginners in TF, I see multiple average items from elite authors being approved, while other items of beginners authors being hard rejected, the worst part of the approval process in my opinion is the fact we do not get any feedback from the reviewers this is very frustrating, they only talk about minimum requirements, but they don’t give us the chance to know about these minimum requirements.
To become an approved author here is much more complicated than I thought, you begin working on your project spends months in it with no guarantee that it will be approved because the approval process remains a mystery and no one understands what are the criteria taken into account. I could be wrong this is just my opinion.
@2035Themes I saw your sscreenshot yes it looks like the slider container is left aligned I will fix that, thank you for your feedback.
@DotRex yes mate, this is not good
@manuelvega thank you for your feedback, I think there’s no way for this template, maybe a whole new version.
