Forgot to say something that’s actually useful :) Instead of buying your own file, why not recommend it to some of the buyers you’ve had contact with and like your work ? We actually did this for one or two CMS themes on TF and we got a couple sales the same day. It’s harmless and positive, if you know your clients would be interested in a great quality product, why not let them know ? I’m not talking about spamming or anything just let a couple people know, that’s all.

Cheers !

PS : Funny :)

I don’t think there’s an author out there that hasn’t considered this little trick while waiting for the first purchase. I know I have :) Never tried it though, it seems the good products sell (almost) right away on AD so it would be just a waste of money.

If your product doesn’t sell decently well right away, it’s not going to sell all that well anyway.

We’ve had such products and there’s not much you can do about that, as someone said even if you “invest” say $100 to get them in the weekly top sellers list they won’t be able to sustain their place anyway if there’s no demand so your “investment” is futile.

Also the 70% + 30% math somewhat flawed, you get 30% referral from the first deposit, what do you do when you need to bump up more files ? And how many authors actually get 70% ? Do you need to create 8 accounts ? How about all the paypal addresses ? Actually you could get some of your friends to do this for you but I still don’t think it’s worth it.

Regardless of what you think about your product, it’s the buyer demand that actually makes it a success or a failure. Some products we were expecting to sell like crazy didn’t while and some we thought wouldn’t sell great did exceptionally well. For the most part expectations are met but we’ve been surprised many times as well.

This sort of tactics are pretty much a grey area, on one hand it is not illegal nor does it break the AD TOS (as far as I’m aware) but on the other hand it is still pretty much a con. This is the sort of thing con artists do to attract victims and these sort of practices have been used throughout the centuries to attract customers in various marketplaces. I sure hope it’s not working as a tactic. Considering the amount of products we plan on releasing, it would be quite costly.

Cheers !

As I remmeber, if you have a MovieClip with an animation in its enterFrame event, it will still render even if the visible property is set to false. Create an animated movieclip, set its visible prop. to false, test and enable Redraw Regions from the context menu. You will see it is still rendered.

if(functionNameHere != null){ trace("exists") }else { trace("does not exist") }

so you won’t get that warning

Hello,

The point of this discussion was not to win you over to our CMS , rather discuss the CMS you talked about. Anyway. if it’s worth re-doing the entire design is something that only you can know, it all depends on your skill set. If it’s easier for your to make a site from scratch then no, otherwise you’d be using a lot of work as far as programming goes and just changing the design if you’re going to buy our template, therefore it should be more efficient this way. We do custom CMSs for any flash website so that’s an option as well, however since it would be a custom CMS it would cost around $4-500.

Cheers !

Our CMS also generates a html clone for SEO and in a future update we’ll also be generating a “designed for mobile” (iphone/ipod) clone. Trust me, the flexibility of an external CMS is well worth the few drawbacks.

Cheers !

We include CMS in our templates as a “bonus”, even though there’s a ton more work involved and building our CMS to this stage took quite a bit of time over the years. We do this because there’s just so much competition and indeed buyers have been used to low pricing, I’m sure a template priced $100 here will not sell well at all, even if it’s worth the money.

Typically (at least for us) authors also include the xml version along with the cms version so that’s not a problem. Additionally, you can modify any visuals you want, it has nothing to do with the CMS . What the cms does is basically “edit” (in our case generate) the xml files so that you don’t have to edit them, it’s not actually tied in any way to Flash. We use the same flash .swf files for the admin and xml versions. Only if you have to change some of the variables that have to do with the XML you would need to change things in the CMS as well (there’s also custom work if the buyer needs it – very few needed it so far from 1000s of CMS sales).

Another huge advantage for using a CMS (again, at least in our case) is that you can automatically generate a html clone for SEO and (in a future update) a clone for Iphones/iPads and other mobile devices that don’t support Flash. That ensures that your content is viewable on any platform, by any person and can be found by search engines as well.

Cheers !

Interesting idea, I doubt it will properly convert very complex files (like a complete template) but it’s a start.
