You want people to help you but when they do you shoot them down and tell them they aren’t helping?
Gareth just mentioned 3 very clear problems with your design that need work.
It does not matter if your chosen color is #F9F9F9 and Metro’s is #F6F6F6. It is all in the details, especially when color is concerned.
Your blue comes across as very harsh on the eyes. You can correct this without changing the color by not over using it. Gareth was right when he said your design needs to breathe. Your footer needs a total re-work. That is just way to much blue and the overall spacing of your design is all over the place. Design is about guiding the user to the content you want them to see, and when i load your forum I am directed to a giant blue footer with bold white text.
The logo and menu are tucked away in the corner like an after-thought. You need to make them pop more and get them noticed. Look at the size of your footer in comparison to your menu and logo. It is just totally out of wack.
Typography needs a lot of work too. It is not just about what font you are using. Example, look how bold the text in your footer menu is in comparison to your main menu. Why, as a user am I consistently being guided to your footer. Also why so much emphasis on ‘Powered by myBB”. As someone who has made a lot of forums in the past I can tell you that that is the last thing i want users to see on my forum. And your numbers for post and thread count seem oddly larger than the rest of the text in the main content.
You really need to make better use of color. Nothing wrong with choosing 2 or 3 colors that all flow together and using them all in harmony. You could even get some more grey or black in there to break it up a bit. Even some different hover effects and colors throughout all the different links wouldn’t hurt. Your social and contact icons are also blue, and a similar blue to everything else. Why so much blue! Look at Metro, its a blue theme. But look at how much black there is compared to blue color, i would go far as to say there is more black. But yet, when i think of Metro i think of a blue theme. Look at facebook, it pretty much owns the color blue when it comes to the internet, but when you look closely at the design there is more black text and white space than there is blue on your average profile page. Less is definitely more when it comes to fixing your design color.
Overall your design brings nothing new to the table. It does not innovate or think outside the box in any way. Think to yourself, what can i create or implement in my design that none of these other designs have? Don’t just throw some CSS down and call it a design (as it appears that is all that you have done) Have fun with it, create something unique that will make people say “Wow, i want that on my forum, i want this theme!”
I know it is not what you want to hear, because in your in your eyes the design is fantastic. But it really is nowhere near ThemeForest standards.I could find better themes for free by just googling.
I suggest researching Color and Design theory and reading more into Typography. Look at more forum themes than just one you found on ThemeForest from 2011. And start thinking about what you can do with your design that will make your design fresh and original.
This is quite possibly the worst suggestion I have ever read on these forums.
Raise the prices of all these Multipurpose 1 million websites in 1 themes. If a buyer wants a theme for a niche then they have the option of buying a niche specific theme or going multipurpose for extra money.
As it stands most buyers will take the most shiny theme they can find regardless of whether there are niche themes that would be better suited for their project available or not. Why wouldn’t they? They are paying next to nothing for it.
Many buyers just see glitz, glamour and price. They don’t see coding standards, website speed, unnecessary bloating or other factors till after the fact.
Authors put months and months of hard work into these themes. Envato has the power to raise the prices to a more fair level for both buyers and authors. The old “oh but you sell so many themes the price doesn’t matter” Okay so using someone else’s car analogy, should BMW or Mercedes drop their prices because they are going to sell lots anyway? Its flawed logic.
I am purely a buyer on Themeforest, i prefer to use my coding skills in other ways. I have thought about getting into theme development and selling on Themeforest. But would I after reading these forums over the past few years and seeing how Envato responds to authors and their concerns. HELL NO!.
I wasn’t a very good kisser but my cousin was.
Sorry for being blunt but that would be ideal as far as I as a buyer is concerned. This would force the part timer bad authors off here and leave us with just the quality authors. This would mean I can buy any item on here with total peace of mind (as I currently can from some other theme providers) without worrying about the author disappearing in a month or not responding to bug reports. This would also ensure better quality themes and push the overall level of the marketplace to amazing heights as ‘small authors’ will not get away with mediocre coding/design/service. This can only be a good thing?
There are not enough memes or face palm photos on the internet to illustrate just how dumb your comment is.
As somebdoy said earlier, this is nothing but inspirational. It’s funny how people react though.
Well done guys, you deserve it! I have a copy of X myself and i love it.
And what is with all the negativity! Is it out of jealousy? Why cant you just be happy for them. They do not have to answer to any of you.
Once again, well done guys, looking forward to seeing the update
That same website and joke is used every year.
Great Post! Good luck with responses
