+1 use HTML there is no point in going through the extra work involved in using WP

And also, compatible doesn’t mean SAME-AS. It doesn’t have to look the same, it has to work and be usable.

I am sure the compatibility is something the reviewers check. At the same time inevitably some get through.

Have you got an example of a theme that “should” but does not run in IE8?

I am 99% sure that themes are required to run “as best they can in older browsers” as obviously there are media queries etc that IE8 does simply not support meaning that it will never run exactly the same.

For those files you bought that do not work correctly in IE8 but claim to do so you can always request a refund (although I appreciate thats not what this is about).

Do not call out or criticize other people’s files on here [especially not the most highly ranked and respected author on the network].

Charlie is right the design is very outdated, the typography needs work and you have some fundamental design 101 issues.

No i would not buy it if I knew that the author would not be updating but in fairness to authors they are not obliged to do it, circumstances may change and force them not to be able to do it, Envato does not require it and I would bet that the vast majority of buyers do not ask the question before buying – many of them are too inexperienced to even consider it.

At the end of the day while you have a valid point and you would hope that most authors will update themes the bottom line is that if they choose to or not buyers have no right to request a refund according the the terms and conditions under which they bought the file, as long as it worked on WP version whatever was the latest at that time.

A fair point but forgive the beginner question – if a final version (not just beta) of WP 3.6 is not yet available in its finished format and an author wants to release their theme, surely it is possible that they may not be able to create it with certainty that it will all work without an issue? i.e How can an author make a WP 3.6 theme before it is complete?

Again we always thought that if it is supported at time of release then that meets all necessary requirements and while it is likely they would release an updated version there is no obligation, and how would a buyer know if a theme is going to be WP3.6 compatible before it is out?

Thank you that makes more sense. I was always under the impression that as long as it worked on the latest version for when it was released then should the author decide not to update it to the next version that is just unfortunate.

No. It is not just about the site – the need for English goes beyond the content of the site itself (that could be Lorum Ipsum etc if needed).
