dnp_theme saidNo offense too, but “back to reality”??? The reality is that if a theme advertises something it is supposed to work like that. This is why some themes are soft rejected sometimes… They have bugs or don’t work as advertised.
@rdavenport you don’t pay for a full site (HTML+PHP+CSS+JS+other_files) around here. You only pay for ONE LICENSE to use the theme AS IS. Everything else (including support) is and ALWAYS be optional.
If I were you, in the majority of customers, I would agree with you 100%, but I’m in the majority of elite authors here, therefore cannot agree with you at all.
FYI: Envato DOES force us authors to develop WP themes with and only with WP standards. This means: import as usual with the WP importer, additional features as plugins, etc. If some authors provide ONE CLICK import, that is also optional, it’s the author’s option to do so. I do it too, because I know how to, but if another author doesn’t, you must appreciate his work on design, regardless of your difficulty to reproduce the demo content. Again, you like it, you buy it, you use it as is.To put it short, you need to come clear, back to reality, no offence ok?
Of course the theme is AS IS like any other software, but if it does not work as advertised the buyer should have the right to get his money back. If not, I wonder what are we authors doing here. Cheating customers?
@ jonathan01: One-click install feature should never erase anything from the database. I don’t even think that a theme that does this would be accepted today on Themeforest.
As a Themeforest buyer I have already had this trouble too. It sucks basically and sometimes not even with the right PHP/server configs the process is complete. On two occasions I had to change the PHP settings, but, if they work for everything else, they should work for this too, huh?
As a Themeforest author I started providing this “some themes ago”. I don’t use the XML import method, because it fails a lot. What I do is add all the necessary content using PHP instructions and the sample images that are needed are provided within the theme folder. This way we don’t have to communicate with other servers/domains which is where problems usually start. I usually spend one afternoon doing this, but after that I don’t spend more time with this feature. And I don’t have any frustrated buyers too
