oh, such a super long thread
I have one little question. Can we put the plugin file(purchased by extended license) in our item if we got the permission by plugin author?sorry if it’s has been answered already but I couldn’t find it :/
Regarding to the rules you can’t. Actually you have to make it sure that plugin in question can not be separated from your work to used in another work.
Everything is possible guys. Let me give you an example;
About 3 weeks ago my HDD crashed and I got lazy so I didn’t take backup for 3 months and I’ve lost every single thing I did for last 3 months.
I use Outlook / Thunderbird and I set them to delete the e-mails from my server once I download them to my computer. Why? I hate mess.
You can imagine what happened. I lost all e-mails for last 3 months, they are not on my server and I don’t have any backup. Nothing is impossible. Keeping things on paper is just more secure than keeping it on computer for such cases.
If you say you taking a backup is not an issue, what happens if you get robbed? These kind of scenarios you just shouldn’t roll out.
Obviously these are extreme cases but you know what they say; things happen (kind version).
As many of you agrees, Envato should keep everything on site instead of private agreement between authors.
I read around 10 pages. It seems most of the people here agrees on a need for developer / multi-use license option however I believe this should be kept separated from larger stock sale prices / license options on TF.
Considering the general market developer licenses are around 3 to 5 times of single use / domain licenses (this is average). Which actually hits extended license prices for CC (it is 5 times more than single license).
I hope to see developer license option at the rate of extended license ratio (x5 times of the regular license). If not, I believe most of the people will look for alternatives thus decreasing total sales & profit but increasing per sale based profit.
I have 2 questions;
1. Why Envato doesn’t create a poll about licenses, prices, new license options where authors and buyers can vote and see the results anytime they want to (I mean being transparent).
2. Why don’t you let authors to choose some limited option as what would be the ratio of extended license, developer license should be? Such as author can choose x3 times for extended license while author can set up x5 times for developer license while submitting the item. I believe this would make any author happy.
Well, that’s definitely bad news for CC authors and might be as well as TF authors.
If “in-stock” prices would be even x2 of Extended license or any expensive than that, I don’t believe Envato nor authors will increase the profit they make. Envato or authors might increase the profit per sale based however overall I believe sales would decrease.
Like many said, if the items would be more expensive than Extended licenses, than people will look for it elsewhere.
Personally the only reason I was purchasing items in Envato because they were cheap considering the time I should put it to create similar job and extended licenses where just right in the edge for me (x5 times of the regular license price).
Considering the ratio of Regular -> Extended license, if “in-stock” licenses would be more expensive than Extended licenses I believe a lot of people will not use Envato. Instead they will look for a person from different parts of the world who can do the same job even under Extended License prices. If that’s the case why to bother?
I don’t want to offend anyone. It is just my opinion as an author and buyer.
P.S. I will ask my question in another topic.
I’m after a clean and tidy download / purchase list to see what licenses I have for products I purchased with ease. I guess it would be nice to have option for many clients and authors.
Thank you for your reply and time KingDog, much appreciated.
I was wondering if there is any option to upgrade a license from regular to extended one. People might not go for extended directly before seeing the work. Once seeing the work, they might decide to go for extended license so they could use it in other works they create.
I was just curious if such thing would be avaliable in the near future and / or what do you think about it?
Congratz Oisin. Your works are amazing as well as your personal portfolio site.
You deserved it
Looking forward to see more of your works.
Is there any option to be informed once any item we purchased is updated? More items we purchase it is getting harder and harder to check if item is updated and if it is what kind of features added.
If there is no such option, I believe it should be added to such website. Authors simply could fill up one form to write what kind of new features added & bugs fixed and with one click anyone who purchased the item could be informed. If we need the new version we can download.
This might be also very useful feature. If we could also see update history of the file so files like admin templates, support systems etc. could improve the sales. Potential customers might check the file and update history and see themselves author is keeping it up to date frequently. This way authors might build trust to their potential customers.
I believe this would be really useful for authors and customers. I’m really tired of trying to check, ask & wait for response to see if file is updated, what are new features & bugs fixed. More files I buy, more time I spend just to check if any files I bought is updated or not.
I’m really sorry if I didn’t notice such feature (considering if there is an option for it already). If there is no such option, what do you think about it folks?
