I do love these ‘lets all have a group hug’ threads

Well I uploaded my first item well over a year ago, but then getting married, moving house and getting a promotion at work all kind of got in the way of my plans for world domination…! I then re-discovered this place at the start of this year and have managed to get a few more files up, some I’m reasonably proud of.

My general feeling towards my own portfolio is that it’s a bit ‘tacky’, I think I made too many files in response to other popular files – which isn’t really the best way to go about it. To much gloss and gradients…

I’m also a very competitive person, but channel that more into the ‘Top Authors’ list and various other comparisons – which I check every day! I’ve also kicked myself at some simple ideas done well which have sold like crazy (Smirnoff, I’m looking at you!). It’s really exciting at the moment, a lot of newer people coming along and doing very well – keeps me motivated to get some new and improved files on. By the looks of it, the weekly top sellers this week is going to contain a lot of items by brand new authors.

I currently have a file in the queue for ThemeForest, but agree it is completely terrifying – I’m just imagining the reviewers or community (if it gets approved!) laughing at me for my poor efforts. I get the feeling that ThemeForest is more ‘serious business’, and doesn’t quite have such a friendly community as GR.

The main thing I get out of this is creative development, I’m getting so much better because of this community. Almost every month I look back on the previous months work and think I could do it much better now.

The top author lists aren’t completely live, they are updated periodically. It tells you how long ago they were updated in the right sidebar: ‘Generated 27 minutes ago’.

Have you had two sales very recently?
