Don’t want to be a party breaker and in no way being a fan of these bulk purchases, still would like to mention something. Back to the last Envato birthday celebration when they made the author income 100% for 24 hours, there was a guy (I won’t mention who and it’s basically against Envato rules) who made like 200+ purchases of his theme which took him to the first or second row of the popular themes. But guess what – next week the sales dropped to the normal and it went out from the popular list again. Moral – boosting your theme artificially does not really give you any serious advantage – if buyers don’t like your theme – they won’t buy it even if it’s in the top of the top list.

I loved the 3.0 update and I think Ticksy deserves the amount they’re charging.

There are 2 things I would like to see:

1. Custom domain 2. Providing premium support for a fee (Ticksy can take a percentage of each sale).

Totally agree to the statement and also just wanted to thank you for a great product – we’ve been using it for 2+ years now and while there are some bugs here-there, it still does a great job simplifying the support handling and we’re very happy with the results so far. And version 3.0 definitely took it to the next level, keep up the great job!

What I did for a plugin (for a theme on here) was add the templates to the plugin and use the following code to tell the template system to use these over the default WP:
add_filter('template_include', function ( $template ) {
 add_filter( 'single_template', function ($single_template) {
  if ( is_singular( 'post_type' ) ) {
   $single_template = dirname( __FILE__ ) . '/templates/single-post_type.php';
  }
 return $single_template;
 }, PHP_INT_MAX, 2 );
}
You can add more to that by checking for archive, taxonomies etc, this means you don’t need to bundle the templates in your theme so they can continue using them if they change your theme.

Thanks so much for the code Garrett, will make sure to give it a try!

Hey there PremiumLayers,

it was a frustration for our last project too, our item was soft rejected for exact same reason. We just bundled this plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/custom-post-type-ui/ which provided a simple import export solution.

Besides the CPT created by third party plugin, you can still attach the metaboxes or other functions like save filters etc by separate file within your theme folder, by including it on functions.php.

The use of third party plugin for CPT was not that hard to deal with.

Hope you find the best solution :D

Hey vuzzu, thanks for the link! I went ahead and ported the custom post types to a plugin but I’m stuck with the frontend generation decision – page template file, custom taxonomy file, single post file – if these are bundled with the theme only, doesn’t having it as a plugin kinda use the sense? I mean, it loses portability anyway so you can’t use it in another theme. One thing that comes to mind is to provide a shortcode for frontend rendering but wouldn’t it be a quite limited option?

Does anyone have any thoughts/ideas on this, what way it would be the best to implement?

@everyone: Thanks so much for your help and advice guys, wish the requirements were more clear, it’s really frustrating to know about the new requirement from the soft rejection message each time vs. having this infromation right from the start.

Its required because your theme won’t pass the Theme Check plugin.

There are clear exceptions regarding the Theme check plugin, full list is available on the requirements phase 1 article so I’m not sure if it’s a realiable source of reference still judging from the answers seems it’s inevitable now..

Hey guys, recently one of our themes got soft rejected and one of the two issues mentioned was the recommendation to move the custom post types to a plugin. Now the question is – is this now a strict requirement or is just a recommendation which is not absolutely required to follow to get to final approval? Would really appreciate an official word on this.
