I would drop the client. Unless you really, really, badly need the money, never take such jobs.
Totally agree with CodingJack, if we can’t change the new system, no matter how inconvenient it is for us and despite the fact that 95%+ authors are against it, let’s at least stand our ground on such vital issues as contacting the buyers back and the ability to refund the buyers. If Envato claims its a platform and we are direct sellers and we can’t do anything about it – fine, but let them at least provide us the options and advantages that such model should provide.
Actually, we don’t receive it (guess we’re the lucky ones ). I guess one option is to try to hide the theme from indexing bots (probably unless you want to showcase its SEO capabilities). Another thing that comes to mind is a CAPTCHA with Contact Form 7.
