You can think about paying somebody to do the HTML work on an hourly basis instead of a partner. Also, post some more work. Don’t get too bent out of shape, it’s hard to gauge responses over the internet.
I really like it and think it’s got a solid looking template. I do have one main suggestion:
Add some color! The black and white photo’s and monochrome headings are too bland. I think you should at minimum, pick one of the color skins as the default. BlackBerry or Blue look pretty great, set one of those as the default.
I somewhat agree with pogoking that the index is a bit unoriginal, but you should get solid sales with all those options. Good luck!
I can understand that and I’m not complaining. I only posted what I did because it seemed like the simplest solution to the original post. I have wondered about the “complainers” that I see on the forums upset over rejection. My guess is that they often get approved after spending some time whining. If you look at the theme’s they post it’s usually obvious why they were rejected. I have nothing but respect for the challenges of being a reviewer.
I totally understand what your saying Parallelus. It’s often easy in my mind to tell between an original and unoriginal design, especially when browsing the item discussions.
The difficult part is for the reviewers is to explain this line between original and unoriginal designs in writing from theme to theme. See it would be simple if it was like ‘no more sliders allowed’ or ‘no 3 column layouts under the slider’. But it’s a very blurred line which makes it even more difficult to describe this unoriginal/original controversy.
I believe this is why kailoon started this thread. It is more productive if ThemeForest reviewers worked with us Authors to convince us to make more unique themes by choice rather than to keep having to reject themes that are quality but unoriginal.
Anyways, my vote goes to contests. Also, it would be cool to get more buyers in the forums.
Parallelus, what buyers do you normally hear the most from? small businesses, photographers, web developers?
I like the idea of contests to push authors to create more original stuff. Obviously the main gripe is the lack of sales after the contest has ended.
Another idea would be creating a section like “Editors Choice” that the ThemeForest staff can feature more original templates. Ideally the extra coverage would promote authors to be more adventurous with the theme designs.
I’ll be honest and say I know your design is far from being accepted. Here’s a few tips to get you started:
-First thing is fix the alignment. Nothing is aligned properly. The content pushed wider than the slider. The logo is left of the slider as well. Start by using a grid system like 960GS:
-Next take a look at some top selling themes and be honest with your design. If your design doesn’t have similar appeal and options, it won’t be accepted.
I think your first design can be an Avatar Icon and Homepage Image!
Welcome to TF and nice designs. Try this thread for some good ideas on what people want designed:
Also Massix has expressed interest in finding a fullscreen gallery theme.
Kontent, I assume you have a Site Template in queue? Don’t worry about a little time in the queue. Sales this week were slow anyways because of many factors including that big WP bundle. So it actually might have saved you some sales if you do get accepted.
PS. Be kind to the gatekeepers
In Safari on the mac, the website is pretty much un-viewable. Everything is pushed to the right out off the page.
As a newer author, but not new to the marketplaces, I can offer some hope. ThemeForest IS trying to do something about the copycats and often lack of originality. It’s obvious if you check the Item Discussions, the most common rejection for high quality themes is lack of uniqueness. ThemeForest is trying to address this problem as best as possible.
Check out this recent thread from a week ago for a great example: http://themeforest.net/forums/thread/need-advice-to-improve-this-theme/32721
This thread had too much doom and gloom. Had to send some positive energy
