I agree with themejutsu, providing support is not mandatory but most of the authors do provide support and some of us do try to help as much as possible.
It is a thin line between theme customization and custom changes and the later should be handled by the client of the theme .
I guess that if you are more interested in support you should look for themes from authors providing good theme support since I am sure there are lots out there in the forest.

Hi there, That should be compatible since the theme uses Wordpress best practices. Probably some Buddypress restrictions and anything the plugin does not provide by default will require your intervention
