Seems unfair for the buyer to complain when the buyer had the opportunity to preview the music and check how it worked with their project first?
I agree. BTW it was useful to understand that a version with ending must always be provided. I’d just prefer customers mail me before rating with 3 stars, infact lowering a good rate item or at least be able to reply to reviews.
Ok, thank you guys. Seems there is room for improvements there. As we can reply to customers message sent from our profile form, it would be useful if we could reply to reviews as well.
I dont know how to contact the customer, but I believe that once you update your time, he will see it in the download section. The only problem is that he is not notified about it.
Yeah, that’s really bad. I can’t even reply to the message just to inform next customers that the comment was about an older version and new main files include a track with ending.
@Digitalscience, +1! Very well said.
I also agree with Digitalscience. Those parts annoyed me as well and strongly remind me when politicians try to trick you mind mincing words.
Don’t know what exactly brought Envato to act in this way. I don’t want to think it’s craving. I hope they are only trying to adapt to new laws or market needs.
However, authors don’t deserve such hypocrisy.
Did some reading, still this whole thing is a bit in the grey area for me. I still do not understand why envato changed their way of doing business. The only thing i see happening is too much change that costs the buyer and the author is not good for business.
Envato as a big corporation has many ways of writing off against their income from being the middle man. I think that authors and buyers don’t have this option unless they have a registered business with a tax number. I have a registered business and i can write off a lot of expenses against my income which all Canadian business owners do. I am an anti government guy because i think the government is worst then the MOB does not matter what country you live in.
To me this whole thing with who is the seller who is the re-seller makes no sense. The seller is obviously Envato not the authors the authors provide the files to envato and get a percentage of the total sale of the file. So this strongly says that the author is not the seller. Think as if you try to sell an item on consignment, the seller would be the store not the person trying to sell his product. We provide our files to envato and they sell and see the transaction, all we see is that we made a certain percentage on a file. We do not even have a contact or any information who bought our files and the reason for this is because we are not the seller envato is.
I sold digital media on many marketplaces before joining envato and i can say that most of them went out of business or their business is not doing all that good because they implemented changes that were only good for them, but when authors and buyers suffer they tend to look for other places to try to buy or sell their digital items.
I have been a member for 6 years and lately i have seen way too many changes that were not really necessary or made no sense. For instance changing the badges some things in the changes make no sense at all and are wrong but these are just cosmetic changes that people will comment on but they don’t really care all that much. When you change something that is got something to do with the income now that”s a different story.
The one thing i never like was the item prices i think they are way too low specially for wp themes and html templates. Ohh and also cannot stand the bundles because this is just a kick in the rump for us this seems like a quick money grab for envato and everyone”s sales suffer because why would anyone spend 60 bucks on one theme when they have 20 in the bundle for the same price.
I have been in this business for over 25 years and have seen many marketplaces crash and fold because of greed and i would hate to see envato going in the same direction. I think since this is a community based marketpalce authors and buyers should have some sort of input on changes since both authors and buyers put the bread on everyone”s table. I think changing things without proper explanation and honesty pisses people off and creates problems and i am seeing a lot of this lately.
I would add that if Envato wants to be just a Platform instead of a reseller, they should at least decrease their fees.
Thought you had a company Why not open one?
Because we are free to decide our working setup. I am in the same Digitalscience situation: everything is coded by me, but withdrawals are not 100% for me.
And if theoretically opening a company would be easier to manage these situations, real things are different. For example, opening a company in Italy I’d see my tax burden pass from 30 to 60 (SIXTY) percent. Plus at least 1K euros more to my accountant and 2K more to maintain all stupid italian taxes, every year. And I totally agree with Digitalscience: my main concern is about my name on invoices, for sums I’ll never see on my bank account.
I perfectly understand you since I’m an italian author as well. Reading your tax percentage (30%) I think we have the same tax regime. It would be great to open a new forum Thread to share information about Italian solutions suggested by each other accountants. At the moment it’s a mess.
