Great advice everyone. Thanks. I have written to the potential client saying thanks but quoting Pink Zebra’s advice. I agree with the general tenor the responses, that I’d be crazy to spend a day or two on a custom track and expect only a few dollars as payment. I’ll let you know what he says. I sense another blog posting coming on…
Only just seen this. Good for you mate!
I was contacted yesterday by a creative director from the US, who says he likes me music but none of my tracks quite fit his needs. He has asked me to write a track to specific guidelines, but is not seeking exclusivity. He has suggested a write it, upload it and then he downloads it as normal.
Without thinking, I said, yes to this request. Am I being a mug? Should I be charging more and, if so, how much? All advice and guidance gratefully received.
Definitely should charge! That guy is being extremely cheeky by suggesting you do that! If enough composers did that (just uploaded custom music to a stock site instead of taking payment for the work), the business would be pretty messed up.
Since you’ve already said yes you can’t really go back on that, but I think next time you are approached for an original composition, definitely charge.
This should be in item discussion otherwise it’s considered self-promotion.
Really like the composition, you’ve nailed that big screen, family-friendly, comedy sound. It reminds me of Christmas films I watched as a child. Great work!
kristopherfisheraudio saidGood luck… So on which other marketplace (outside Envato) will you be?
Hi guys and girls,
I have decided that it would be better for me to go non-exclusive on Audiojungle now, I have seen a huge slump in sales in the past 6 weeks and while I understand there will always been issues that need to be ironed out, I feel that the new search engine has really affected my items, perhaps the site is becoming too saturated.
Even with increased promotion, good quality and commercial items I have not seen the results of previous months. As we all know AJ/Stock sites are a marathon and not a sprint.
So I have decided to branch out and take the 17% commission hit in exchange to sell my work elsewhere – sites that address the current licensing issues here on AJ etc, I will still be around, just not as an exclusive author, so I wont be a stranger- Kristopher
I don’t think we’re supposed to discuss other marketplaces here on AJ. Have a Google and you will find tons, or maybe drop Kris a message via his profile page to ask
I have done the same now too. No time to write new tunes often enough for AJ so thought I may as well. Good luck
