I think that at least it must be a Note or some kind of tagging that will give customers ability to search “Shortcode Free” themes in themeforest.

I bought 5 themes that all of them uses shortcodes for whole theme. There is nothing left :\ No Page template or someting but all the Design was introduced in demo was built with Shortcode and this is my friends a very big problem

I’m pretty sure people simply don’t read the words that I write sometimes.
I thought the same since, in my post, i explained why i don’t think to store builder layout data into post_content is a viable solution and you’d still rely on meta for that.

To use post_content as builder storage and saving rendered markup into it as fallback for customers switching theme are not the same thing in my book: builder itself won’t need/use post_content to edit/render page content.

Is there a way to create Page Template file on the fly from wordpress admin with page buider?

Like if user creates some layout with page builder, is there a way creating php file of page template instead of saving markup in the DB ?

Guys, As i see many of you bring couple ways of solutions. But i really want to know if everybody or at least most of you agree that Shortcodes for building layouts of a page in Themes is not a best for end user?

Like it will be a way better if this layouts could be in Page Templates and not shortcodes and as long as developer want to provide some extra functions, it can be done by widgets or maybe by page builders but definintly not by shortcode writing in to the editor.

I really don’t see how End user (lets say some kind of Fisherman) can handle writing and understanding shortcodes like that in content.

From the author perspective: without shortcodes it’s impossible to implement complex layouts. All themes will be simple blog templates. Like it or not, but if you (as a buyer) want multifunctional themes – you’ll have to live with shortcodes.

Why not using page templates? I really can’t see what is so complex in it. This multifunctional themes at the end of the day is not so functional at all

IS THIS IMAGE LOOKING GOOD? TELL ME? DOES IT?

I’m not taking part in this thread, but just a heads up, typing in all capitals and writing in what can be interperated as an angry/threatening manner will get your thread locked.

Keep the conversation professional and constructive at all times.

Agree Sorry about it from everyone !

simply ignore my items when you are deciding to purchase an item here

You are talking about page builder. I am not talking about it. I have no prob with page builders as long as it is separate from theme as a plugin and i am not forced to use it at all.

I can agree with you and as you can read in my previous reply i explain that shortcode is not a BAD THING as itself when it used in a right way but not for building full page layout.

Thats what i am talking about. i have no problem to purchase and use your themes as long as i am not forced to use this Shortcodes (without builder) for getting the layout that was introduced in a DEMO.

Thats what i am talking about. I can understand in using shortcodes for some kind of buttons and interface ellements in the content itself, thats OK, but user have a choice to not using them.

The problem i introduced here was that FULL theme was builded under Shortcode limitation. All layouts that was introduced in a Demo of the product was actually not a Page Template but full of bunch of shortcodes in tinymce editor.

Thats a problem and not in using a Shortcode for specific situvations.

Page Layout Must Not Be Built With Shortcode.

Thats the point

Sure, the shortcodes should not be added in the theme, they should be used via plugins, but should the page builders be in the theme? My opinion is that if the shortcodes are bad, the page builders are not any better.

Its a good point. I think that page builders must be a separate from a theme and should be used via plugins and not forcing a user to use it for layout purpose of the theme.

using pure shortcodes to create the layout is not a good way.
@imangm shortcodes as itself is great solution and there is good practice like in Contact form 7 plugin. But i can’t agree with you with :
if you want beautiful elements inside your theme you should use shortcodes

No you don’t. beautiful elements can be added as widgets, as an metabox options, in css, js or as separate options. Its not like “if you don’t use shortcode, you can’t use beautiful elements”. Ofcourse you can. It all depends on a theme and on a developer.

Look at this theme i bought earlier. http://themeforest.net/item/inovado-retina-responsive-multipurpose-theme/3810895

All you can see in this theme is not actually a template based but for most as 98% of all this beautiful elements and layout you see in a demo on all PAGES is a full of mess in WP Editor with shortcodes. FULL OF MESS

I was so disappointed to figure it out. How the hell end user can use it? I as a developer and a blogger get hard times to use it. Its all based on shortcodes.

So actually i as a customer got not a template but Header + Footer and tons of shortcode to deal with it. Its not a template for me. Thats definitely not why i am buying themes here.

If all i buy is a header and footer, i will not invest my money in here anymore. Thats why i put this subject up

Couldn’t Have Said It Better. Looking forward to your themes in my next projects!

The funny is there are alot of great sale items (>1k , >5k LOL) just use shortcodes for layout , for widgets for everything in a custom page , home page.

As a coder , I’m still feel hard to edit shortcodes to create a full pages. How other buyers without no coding-skills can edit them?

In my all themes , we never let buyer use shortcode to build complex things. The shortcodes are very limited and very simple just like a button or a social icons. All widgets, layout need to be built via page builder which very easy and everyone can do it.

However themeforest only encourage better design , not better functions. Because the better design will give better sale. But when buyer are using a poor functions , all shortcodes theme, they will cry alone =))

I think TF should thinking more about the functions , please take care more user experience than the design.

What that mean? If theme cost 45$ so it must be a mess? Are you serious? 45$ X 7000 sales… Not as little as it sounds, right?

I prefer less “OPTIONAL” theme then Tons of layouts that actually is Shortcode based that will peace off every site owner

~45$, enough said.
