This is an interesting topic, can you guys specify if you are using a local or an online repository. I’m looking for an online cheap and private repository but it’s hard to find.

GitHub works beautifully for this, they have private repositories available in paid subscription packages.

The pricing is very reasonable for what you get:

Send a DMCA takedown. Be ready for the legal implications of that.

I am talking about cases where the original items are here on Envato marketplaces.

Two examples:

1. A new author purchases an item from an Envato marketplace and makes some small modification to it. The item is largely the same, but the new author submits it for sale as their own work after creating new description, images etc.

or

2. A new author creates an item that is probably different enough to be considered original, but bases it on the concept of an existing item. The new author then copy/pastes the description from the sales page of the existing item into his new items description.

In the above two cases, would a DMCA notice be the proper action to take?

In either case, it should be fairly obvious to Envato staff what happened if they look at the two items because they either have identical descriptions or item content.

Where can we find information about Envato’s policy on authors ‘copying’ existing items and putting them up for sale, or copy/pasting the description of an existing item into their own new item description?

I see a few of these cases and know one that was reported to Envato staff more than a month ago but no action was taken. I’m not attempting to bring attention to this specific case or shame the author, I just want to know what the official policy is.

Is it somehow ok for new authors to copy other authors items, or to copy/paste the item descriptions word-for-word when they are not feeling creative or original?

I can’t believe this stolen item is still on CodeCanyon.

Envato support, can you please clarify what is going on here and what action will be taken if any in this case and cases like it?

Another “author” has clearly stolen codingking’s work and copy/pasted the item description word-for-word. It has been reported 2 weeks ago, yet the item is still up for sale.

Why do you need codingking to do anything more than report this? Envato staff should be able to look at the two items and see that this is is blatant plagiarism. How was the stolen item even approved in the first place?

It’s not good for anyone if a precedent is set here that shows Envato will allow the theft of items and their descriptions by any new author who wants to copy/paste them.

Please take some action on this, or at least give an explanation as to why this is being allowed.

Not long? Now it the 6th day with no answer….

Yea, I don’t see why it takes 6 days to take action on this obvious rip of your item.

What I meant was, it should not take them long to see it’s a problem when they look at the two items.

It was very easy to find the copied item, and very easy to see it is a complete rip of your item.

It should not take Envato support long to figure this one out, and the user who stole your item should be banned.

Best of luck.
