“Our vision for Envato Market is to empower and celebrate authors as a community of entrepreneurs, not to shrink their role in the transaction.” Well since I started, in 2007 I have been treated the way I would never treat a good selling author (let’s just put it that way), I had countless problems with reviewers; Many times I had to talk to managers, and to even write to Collis on few occasions – with no reply – and my whole experience is rather painful – I feel like I had to fight for every one of my 364 items to even be featured here. So, I don’t feel “empowered or celebrated in community of entrepreneurs” at all. 19K sales later, I still don’t even feel appreciated for my contribution to this marketplaces and SURELY I won’t take a burden of being a “seller” on top of everything. I am getting my percentage after Envato sells my items. So I feel like this whole sweet talk is just a prelude to something I am pretty sure I won’t like. Let’s hope I’m wrong and wait to see…
Sounds like you didn’t much like the previous 7 years either, and yet here you are still as an exclusive author. Envato must be doing something right.
make 17K more sales and you’ll know what I mean by then

Classy comment bro.

Audio jungle seems like the only marketplace where authors congratulate each other on milestones rather than posting about themselves all the time. I’m not saying it’s better than the other markets, but it clearly is better than the other markets. :) By the way I think there’s a video game where you can use Triple Sparta to attack the magic barrier! Onwards to glory!

That quote cracks me up, really you don’t want to “shrink” our role, c’mon.

Whoever’s writing this stuff (Collis I guess) should get into politics – they’ve mastered the art of hypocrisy.

Maybe her hair on the first one?

What’s wrong with her hair??? :D

It’s the typography that’s the problem on both.

Now here’s the thing. I don’t know if it’s relevant to your gig, but if the Producer/Director is happy, you could even upload the entire score to AJ or another stock library in a non-exclusive account. That way, you are still keeping active composing for AJ and so can still generate income here too. I have just spoken to my Producer/Director and he is happy for me to do that until the film is released (next year) so I can upload all of this soundtrack here and keep active at AJ too, while the movie is in production. :) Perhaps you can do the same?

I don’t think you need to upload it on a non exclusive account. Since you wouldn’t be actually selling the music as stock music somewhere else, I think exclusive is OK.

Wouldn’t the more important factor be: did you have any ideas for the score while watching it? Does the director seem like someone who will be good to work with? Can you make a score for the film which you could feel satisfied with, even though you don’t like the film itself? I’ve seen films that were total garbage in many respects, but had some good music. Transformers, for example. :D

Authors I would love to see on Envato Stories: SevenStyles (GR) – the guy’s an insane Photoshop genius. BITGEM – 3DOcean, should be easy to track him down, he’s Envato staff I think. Any well travelled videohive or photodune author like eldelik for example. JBlanks (AJ) – he’s an interesting guy since he’s a film director.

The sky’s the limit, there are so many amazing authors that could be interesting to learn more about. :)

I also loved the Envato Stories, however in my personal opinion, you guys gave way too much space to Envato Studio people, while authors on marketplaces seemed to be scarce (at least at first…). After all, marketplaces are much older and have a huge number of authors (and buyers).
Thanks for the feedback urbazon! I agree — we didn’t end up with as many Envato Market authors as I would have liked. Naysan and I did contact a lot of authors on Envato Market, but unfortunately a lot of them didn’t want to be on video (I think a lot of them were shy).

+1 I came here to say the exact same thing. Would be good to have another series of Envato Stories but with more authors from all the marketplaces. In fact you could make it a goal to have at least one author from each marketplace. :) Would be awesome to drop by audio jungle guys in their studio, or learn about video hive authors. Come on authors, don’t be shy. :D

By the way, I don’t think this thread should be in TF Off Topic…
