There isn’t really a connection between selling here and winning forum competitions, unless they’re the “Most Wanted” competitions where you can get some real money. As for what you can win it depends on the competition. I’ve won site credit, a t shirt, and some ultra rare Audio Jungle guitar picks from competitions. A bonus of spending too much time on the forum. :D Anyway people don’t enter these competitions just to win, it’s also just for fun.

By the way with regard to your entry to the urban wallpaper competition – it was different, that’s for sure! More of a web comic type thing than a wallpaper.

The foreground elements fight the background.

That’s it in a nutshell. Remember you need the correct hierarchy for a design to work. The text must have priority, otherwise the design is not doing it’s job, which is conveying information. The background graphics are great in their own right, but on this design they completely over power the text.

Isn’t it all about flat design these days? Like tm says it does look dated.

Like I said before, you need to go away and work on your design skills, especially typography. At the moment you’re wasting your time uploading here. Spend a month or so studying graphic design, watch those great tutorial videos about typography and layouts from lynda.com. Then start designing flyers again after that.

Watching these will help you a lot – http://www.lynda.com/Ina-Saltz/450560-1.html

Did the reviewer say the layer organising was the problem? If not then it was probably a problem with the quality of the design. If you want you can upload previews of your flyers here so people can give you advice about them. There’s nothing special to tell about how you organise the layers, just put separate elements in folders, like a folder for all text etc, and name the layers clearly.

Hi ToivoMedia, no they didn’t say this, what they exactly say is this:

Unfortunately your submission Modern Corporate Flyer Template isn’t ready for GraphicRiver and cannot be resubmitted as it did not meet our minimum requirements for quality and/or Envato Market policies. In order for submissions to be considered for sale they must be of high aesthetic and technical quality, unique to our library and cannot be in violation of Envato’s policies. Regrettably the Help and Quality Teams are unable to offer a critique or feedback on your rejected submission.

Here’s the link of my work on Behance:

What my question was do they also reject (hard) for not adding Adjustment layers to change color (such as Hue Saturation layer by which client can easily edit color), and if they reject for this then they should reject softly and should also inform this to me. But lastly if they reject for this then please tell me. Anyway I am very organized in setting the layers. If you want then I can send you some of my psd so that you can judge me.

I suggest you post your designs here, then we can at least tell you if it looks like the designs themselves are good enough. It’s good to make adjusting the colours easy for buyers, but not having adjustable colours is unlikely to get your design rejected if the design itself is good. If it was a case of just adding some more features to the item, they would soft reject it and tell you what you should improve.

Thank you for informing this that if design was good then for not adding adjustment layers they may soft reject it but will never hard reject it, now I understand my design may not have professional elements much.

As you said that I should post my design here, but I can’t find any options to post my design here, do you think there are any option, and my designs are in Behance as I said earlier, if you are not satisfy with Behance view then please let me know how to post my design as you want? See my Behance link if you haven’t seen it yet :), link is little bit over here. Thank you very much anyway for helping me out.

I had a look at your designs, they don’t look too bad but you’ll need to do more work to get something approved here. The main problem is the typography, you need to learn more about hierarchy, etc. It takes some time and attention to build your typography skills and develop an eye for good looking type layouts.

This is a good thread with some info about typography – http://graphicriver.net/forums/thread/how-to-get-better-at-typography-practical-tips/133663#1061353

Also your designs are quite generic, there are very many similar designs already. So I would suggest spending some more time on each design to make something with some extra spark to it. Good luck and happy designing. :)

Does Envato still do bundles? Haven’t seen one in a while since the VAT story.
There was the indie font bundle recently. I think they’ve changed how they do them since the VAT thing, they are done on a separate site now.

Awesome guys! thanks a lot for the replies! Very useful…. what was the VAT story? What happened?

Thanks

Buyers started being charged VAT because of the new law in the EU that requires VAT on sales of digital goods. It meant Envato had to change their business model a bit to optimise their tax situation.
