You are not allowed because you are an exclusive author.
- You CAN sell other items on other sites, including your own
- You CANNOT sell or offer for free the same items elsewhere.
I think this is pretty much the perfect answer to your question. However, if you are NOT an exclusive author, then it seems fine to me. Who is to say you did not pay yourself for them and then gave them away for free

I just looked up some of the users I have referred. Quite a few have bought 10+ items. So put me +1000 for getting commission on other deposits

Themeforest pretty much pays my bills
I just wish affiliates would make some commission from repeat purchases (5%-10% at least)... Like Elegant Themes. Where you make a commission from the first purchase (50%) and then again if they upgrade their service (50%).
This way you benefit from sending good members. For example, I have sent over web developer friends that I personally know will be buying at least a few items a month.
