Ugh. Kinda makes one sick. A film studio can put a whole movie soundtrack complete with an asset library of sound effects together for cheaper than the take away lunch at the meeting. There needs to be a paradigm shift in how the extended license thing works before the top ten guys here get together with a couple web developers and take the market share from AJ.

Audiojungle is a creative substitute to procrastination and gaming and helps me learn my sample libraries. I do music full time in other capacities.

Solo piano sounds best with most of the transient left in. A manual ride on the fader makes the most sense, then, hit it with your color compressor -3db early, slow and and transparent.

I own and run mastering service. Contact me via email and I’ll help you out and send you my client list and some details about the next step. I’m inexpensive to get your stuff to the next level. Check out John Bryant “What Takes You”, a finessed record I did this year which garnered the Itunes song of the week in the folk genre: http://www.amazon.com/What-Takes-You/dp/B0083NNBOS or The Silver Pages for something totally different: https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/part-1-ep/id573688853 I’ve Mastered many Genres. Shoot me a line, would love to help!

I feel like the extended license needs a small tweak to really work. Tim stated it well, to see your work in a major budget film should make AJ staff quake. The power of the library market is the long tail model… but it has not yet been able to appraise the true value of the quality that arises from it. Why not price the extended licenses based on a questionnaire filter, with uses, reproduction numbers and budget filters. Or just a negotiation between AJ and the buyer. I would imagine most high end buyers want to do things right and do not need policing.

I love big trailers! Would love to either write something custom or edit on something. Here is one idea!

+1

I would also say that some buyers are actually motivated to give low stars! Why? Because they can help the odds to have an off-the-beaten-path track that less people will have. Lets face it, no one wants to show up at the party with the same shirt as someone else. Familiarity of a track can be a bad thing. For example if say Walgreens has an extended license on some Envato intellectual property, why not rate it low to help secure the obscurity and anonymity of the piece…so that CVS doesn’t come along and have it as the same corporate identity! The buyer has nothing to loose buy rating low, and nothing to gain by rating high. This is especially true for items which have low sales numbers (which buyers are also privy to). I suggest there be author set prices for one time exclusive licenses, this would attract buyers who need to have a one of a kind work for hire type of license item. This is a huge missed market just waiting to be tapped. You are also insulting the buyer who say loves a 3 star track. The system looks good on paper and thats about where it ends. I give it three stars, nah two… no one. Yeah one is better for me. Anybody else?
