Let’s hear the conclusion of the whole matter. It’s all about web standards.

Where there is adversity, there is opportunity. I believe Flash can become even better through all of this. The technology can improve to meet any need both consumer & technology wise. It comes down to designers catering the technology to the needs of others, rather than to the conveniences of themselves. Because Flash is so easy to use, its so easy to abuse. There’s no rules in Flash, and the world is leaning towards more rules. If Adobe will do it, Flash can work fine on mobile, problem is they are shifting their resources. So us, Flash designers, are affected by Adobes direction in all of this, and we must too, shift our resources. So much of the ball is in Apples court, them and Adobe just won’t get along it seems. I read an article a long time ago stating that Adobe had a flash player ready to go for iPhones, but Apple would not accept. Corporations have so much control, its like communism within web design.

I don’t rule out any platform I go by what my client want if it’s flash HTML or whatever, but not like other idiotic developers I don’t trash other platforms.

Thanks for your replies, its good to know where other web designers stand.

Another question regarding joomla vs Wordpress. Which one of the two follows w3 web standards the best? And which one will withstand the test of time? As far as the future holds, which one would a prudent web developer spend his resources on?

I’ve never used Wordpress before, but Joomla is the cornerstone of how I build websites. What would be the advantage of switching to Wordpress? Where do you see the future of these two technologies?

Look, people need to consider this: can X be done in this technology? If yes, you don’t go and tell your customer – it’s easier for me to do it in Flash. No, you tell them, it’s worth doing in HTML5 , because everybody will be able to see it. An example would be our last project, which was supposed to be in Flash http://dev.vuzum.com/clients/mg/.

We’ve been converting a lot of our customers to non Flash projects, and we will keep doing that as long as what they require doesn’t need Flash. It’s the right thing to do.

I love Flash, but the browsers have evolved, and when there’s no need for it, we simply don’t use it.

For what is worth, I think Flash and AS3 can make brilliant stuff on the games side on mobile devices. I checked a bit of OpenGL ES and it’s f*ing complex. But then again, how many of us have been doing Flash for web versus Flash for games?

Bobo, I took a look at that site you mention above. Good work, but one thing is hindering me from using it. I clicked on the bio page. Once I was ready to go to another page, there was no way to switch, because the menu button was overlapped by another button. I’m using an Android phone. So html5 is good but Im seeing a glitch in this site to where the website becomes unusable.

When will html5 be as stable to design and code in as flash is??? This whole thing with throwing away flash is a direct effect of Apple refusing to allow of on their devices.

Adobe new focus for Flash is gaming and AIR app for multiple devices. This is surprising but not really shocking after seeing what they have done through out this year. There hasn’t been any improvement for the Flash mobile browser… Personally I don’t enjoy creating game, mobile AIR is fun but not really a gold mine that can generate good income. Hate it but it’s time we get our hand dirty again with js and html.

+1 I agree with RimV on this. It’s time to get our hands dirty.

Hello,

I have an image gallery on my website. My problem is I don’t have the time to manually go in and edit the XML adding every image file and thumbnail to the code.

What I need is gallery that I can just make a html file, give it a folder where the images are stored, and have it work just like that.

I have a mp3 player that does this. Do update it, all I do is upload the files to a folder and the mp3 player picks them up.

So similarily, I need a gallery that I can just upload the image to a folder and the gallery picks it up.
