Actually, they know exactly what they want, and its your job to give it to them. Nothing else, they are not paying you to push the boundaries of design or reinvent a CMS . You just have to get the job to meet THEIR needs, not your ego.

So you’re saying if you were hired as an engineer to design a jet engine, you’d let the client dictate how you should go about it just because he took an engineering class back in community college and thinks he knows what he’s talking about?

No matter what profession you’re in, you should always be trying to help the client towards achieving a successful product, which includes giving them suggestions and criticism on what they think are good ideas.

Yep, I thought of the same thing. Moving it all back to the root of the site fixed it.

Thanks again for all the help!

Hi blabus!

You have changed the name of the div from ‘flashcontent’ to ‘playerContent’.

SWFObject.write() method tells SWFObject to proceed with embedding the SWF with that specified name.

Also, not sure if you have changed the name of the player swf file from ‘preview.swf’ to ‘Mp3 Player.swf’

Yes! Thank you. I changed the parameter in the .write() method and now I’ve got the player showing. Next step is to figure out why none of the songs are being loaded. Any ideas on that? :)

So I bought this MP3 player to use on a client’s website: http://activeden.net/item/dynamic-mp3-player-xml/4051

I copied the exact code from the example HTML file that came with it into my HTML file, but I cannot get it to appear at all. It just plain doesn’t show up. I’ve double checked that the DIV I ’m placing it in is visible, because I can add other content to it and it appears. So, I was wondering if anyone could help me out here (I’m not a Flash guy at all, and haven’t really worked with it much either- obviously :) ).

Here is the site I’m trying to implement it on: http://www.travisjamesmusic.com/version2/index.php (click on the ‘Player’ tile on the bottom). It should show up underneath the ‘Player’ label when everything slides over, but it doesn’t. Feel free to look at the code for the page and see if I made a stupid mistake.

Thanks for any help!

So yeah, title seems pretty self-explanatory. I’ve been trying to break into iOS and Mac app development for quite a while now, and it’s basically been a string of almost-partnerships that didn’t work out. So, I figured I’d give it one more shot and ask around, what with the Mac App Store opening today. I just recently put out my first iPhone app on the App Store, more to get my feet wet and see how it all works. I designed and coded it myself, but the coding was done in Titanium, which, while a promising product, is really not up to par for more in-depth development work (at least not yet).

So basically, I’m looking for any iOS & Mac developers who are interested in working with me. I’d post a link to my iPhone app and website, but I’m sure it’ll just be removed, so just search for “Drop Apps” in Google and it should be close to the top.

So that’s it. I’ve got ideas and the design know-how to create compelling interfaces, all I’m missing is someone to turn them into awesome functioning apps. If you are interested, just be sure that you’re serious about it. I don’t mean that we’re going to both quit our day jobs and start the next Tapbots (at least not right away :) ), and I realize everyone has busy lives, but I do want someone who will at least devote the time needed to make apps that really stand out.

So, if anyone’s interested, give me a shout!

Remember not to make the mistake of thinking Microsoft does not purposely cripple IE, because I would wager that they absolutely do. They know that they have a huge percentage of browser market share, and they know they can use that to hold back the web as much as they can. The last thing Microsoft wants is web apps (and by extension, eventually a web-based OS) taking off, for obvious reasons.

Apple comes out with a pointless device and somehow I’ll end up having to eventually buy one.

Great quote, I’ll be using that!

Get ready for some competition iPad. Several PC manufacturers are developing tablets that run full Win7 operating systems. I’d much rather have a tablet with a full OS than a gigantic iPad Touch :)

Haha, flame-bait fail. :)

And yeah the main problem I’ve noticed (aside from fixed positioning, which isn’t really the fault of the iPad but more a result of the touchscreen paradigm) is what Parallelus mentioned, where there are rendering glitches when the page is zoomed way out to fit the screen. But not much you can do about that.

I love how so many people also just ask for an invite and post nothing but their email, as if the users with the invites just randomly throw them out to anyone who begs enough. How about you guys try sending them some samples of your work, cause you know, that kinda might have something to do with being accepted.

Exactly! A gently used collection of troll dolls!

Wow, yeah I didn’t even notice that. I’m not sure I want to know how exactly they’ve been ‘gently used’. :)
